Synopsis/Summary: Eunhyuk is reminded of Donghae when he sees a chocolate and vanilla cake.
Chocolate or vanilla? That is the question…
Okay, maybe not. However, that had been Eunhyuk’s question ever since he had met a certain fish whose name started with a D and rhymed with gay…or not. Well, they both ended with the same “-ay” sound, anyway. But wait, that’s not the point.
Ever since - what was it now? - eight or ten years ago, Eunhyuk couldn’t remember exactly, after all, they were madly in love, that question had been on his mind constantly. Now, many would ask him what he meant by “chocolate” and “vanilla”. Well, it was quite obvious.
There are lots of fanfics about him and his adorable lover. Ones about falling in love and how, almost every single one of them, their first - if not one of - their dates consist of them going out for ice cream. Of course, the fans, knowing how he was with strawberry milk, had him get strawberry ice cream practically every single time. Which doesn’t quite make sense since even though his favorite milk flavor may be strawberry, his favorite ice cream flavor could be, say…pistachio!
Eunhyuk groaned. His train of thoughts had gone off into a whirlwind of other things now. He sighed inwardly and got up, feeling the need for ice cream. Therefore, he thought maybe he’d just think about it on his way to getting some sweet, strawberry ice cream.
…Damn, maybe the fans were right about him and his obsession with strawberry. Although he had to start questioning it when they said he used strawberry lubricant for Donghae and-do people even make strawberry lubricant? If so, he had to contact a fan and get them to tell him where.
Anyway, Eunhyuk quickly shoved his thoughts in the direction of Donghae. Chocolate or vanilla? In nearly every fanfic, Donghae mostly picks chocolate. However, there are the rare instances where he picks vanilla. Although, Donghae’s preference in ice cream wasn’t what he was fumbling about (It was coffee, by the way. HA. He knew Donghae’s favorite flavor whereas the fans that spent hours stalking them didn’t!). Rather, it was Donghae’s personality.
There’s “chocolate!Hae” as the fans would say. This side of Donghae was sexy, seductive, bittersweet…anything incorporated with chocolate when you think about it. Considering Eunhyuk was Donghae’s boyfriend, Eunhyuk knew exactly what kind of chocolate Donghae was, and that was dark chocolate. The kind that was bitter against your tongue and warms you up in a haunting way. This chocolate was seductive and knew it was good. This side of Donghae, the fans only got ten percent of, because the other ninety percent is shown to Eunhyuk. In his own room. In bed. At night.
Alone.
Eunhyuk shivered, remembering that tight, tight heat that had been wrapped so tightly around him the night before. He remembered the breathless moans and the labored pants that had sent the body beneath him shuddering and trembling with pleasure.
Whoa, stop right there. Eunhyuk shook his head, trying to forget those scenes before he would get a completely erect hard-on in the middle of public. He steered his thoughts away from “chocolate!Hae” and moved on to “vanilla!Hae”.
This side, the fans saw constantly. After all, vanilla!Hae was known for his childish behavior and natural overly cuteness. The five year old hyped up on sugar that ran around with a cute smile that had his tongue sticking out slightly and playfully…this was vanilla!Hae. The oh-so-innocent boy who was pure, sweet, and flat out adorkable.
This side was shown more, and was part of Donghae’s true nature. However, around Eunhyuk, the cuteness exploded and flies up to nearly Sungmin’s level of aegyo. Vanilla was much more innocent too. Just flat out sweet and sugary to taste with a slightly unique flavor.
Donghae himself smelled like vanilla, and Eunhyuk was intoxicated with that scent. He loved to bury his face in his boyfriend’s neck and just breathe it all in.
“May I help you, sir?” Eunhyuk looked up at the sunny-smiling girl standing before him behind the counter. She was a petite brunette and slightly reminded him of his dongsaeng, Sunny. Hm…I wonder how SNSD are doing?
“Ah, yes. I’d like a strawberry on a sugar cone please.”
He then thought about Donghae, and how the latter had said earlier on that he’d be back home at around five in the evening. Eunhyuk pulled his phone out and checked the time, seeing that it was just a mere quarter of an hour away. He looked around, eyes finally landing on a single heart-shaped cake in the freezer over to his left. He walked towards it, finding that it was a strawberry ice cream cake with a chocolate crunch center and vanilla icing. He smiled, finding it to be perfect. The heart was blank except for some sugar flowers decorating the top right hand corner. Green icing vines crept down from the flowers and around the heart.
Eunhyuk picked the cake up and went back to the counter where the girl was holding out his strawberry cone.
“Can I have this cake? But can you write something on it using the icing for me?”
“Sure,” She smiled at him and took the cake. Placing it on the counter, she headed into the back to come forward with a small tube of pink icing. “What would you like it to say?”
“Hm…Happy Valentine’s Day, My Fish?” Eunhyuk asked, and the girl nodded.
Like a good employee, she didn’t ask any prying questions. She just wrote the message in a pretty, cursive handwriting before placing it in a box. She tied the box with a pink ribbon before cashiering the cake.
“That’ll be fifteen sixty two,” The girl read off the cashier. Eunhyuk fished out a twenty and handed it to the girl.
“Keep the change,” Eunhyuk smiled before picking the cake up and leaving.
“Thank you! And Happy Valentine’s Day!” The girl called and Eunhyuk just smiled at her as he pushed the door open, causing a little ring to sound.
“You too!”

Donghae sighed, dropping his duffle bag at the door as he took his shoes off. He was tired and wanted to just go lie down and sleep. However, as he entered the vacant dorm, a lack of lighting caught his attention. He looked around, only to land on flickering candlelight inside the kitchen. He headed towards the kitchen, wondering if Leeteuk hyung was having another one of those candlelight talks again.
However, as he entered the kitchen, the sight that met him had him stop short and gasp. The usual foldable table had a white cloth draped over top of it. Two candelabras were set up on either end of the table. There were two plates detailed with gold with perfect silverware beside them. In between the candelabras was a glass vase of white and red roses along with a heart shaped cake that had Happy Valentine’s Day, My Fish in the center of the table.
“Happy Valentine’s Day, love,” A familiar voice whispered into his ear. Donghae jumped before turning around, only for a pair of lips to press against his in a chaste, yet passionate kiss.
“Mm, Hyukkie,” Donghae opened his eyes slowly as Eunhyuk pulled the brunette against his body.
“What do you think?” He smiled gummily.
“…I love it,” Donghae grinned widely as Eunhyuk kissed the tip of his nose again. “And I love you.”
“I love you too, Hae.”
“What’s with everything?” Donghae asked, smiling.
“Valentine’s Day, fishy,” Eunhyuk kissed the brunette again.
Giggling, Donghae said, “I thought we were just going to watch Titanic and then go to sleep?”
“Well, I saw the cake and got reminded of you.”
“How?”
“It’s vanilla and chocolate,” Eunhyuk replied and led the younger over to the table and sat the other down. Ignoring the confused look he got from Donghae, Eunhyuk began to cut up the cake. He gave Donghae the slice that had the word fish on it and plucked off a sugar flower to place on his plate.
“How does that remind me of you?” Donghae asked after forking a piece and popping it into his mouth.
Eunhyuk smirked in a sexy kind of way as he replied in a tone that left no room for elaboration, “You’re vanilla and chocolate.”
