Synchronicity » Return 01: Reconnection

He was sure of one thing. The dream was undoubtedly completed. Zero Requiem had succeeded, but among the celebrations, the Grey Witch was nowhere to be found. Not in the United States of Japan. Not in the Euro Universe nor the Chinese Federation. Not even the Britannian homeland.

She was merely an image in history books now. The Empress of the Demon Emperor - the Grey Witch was the woman who stood throughout everything, even the Zero Requiem.

Always hiding in the shadows of the story.

Always there somehow, some way.

He didn’t fear for her life or safety. After all, she never died that easily.

Something told him she was alive somewhere, out there. He would find her no matter what the cost.

It wouldn’t matter how long it would take. He knew he had to find her.

His back was aching. He stretched his arms out. He heard a crack from somewhere, but it didn’t matter if his back snapped. It would heal. He was immortal just like her.

“She walks in beauty, like the night…”

He looked up at the sky. After sunset, the clouds had parted, revealing the darkness of the night. The scene looked all too familiar. He smirked to himself, tugging at the hood of his sweatshirt.

His choice of attire did not suit him much, but it was a disguise which served him well. A few days ago, he passed as an ordinary Britannian. But now, he looked more like an Eleven - or rather now, Japanese teenager from the former ghettos. The frame of his face and sharp chin were visible, but he was still unrecognizable. His eyes were covered by transition glasses which shifted from light to dark depending on UV rays in a certain area.

He didn’t need them to see. His vision was perfectly fine, but it served as his perfect disguise. Not even his best friend could recognize him now. He could laugh, but he didn’t. Instead, something echoed in his head.

“Did you lie to me then? That you’ve never met anyone who can replace-?” He cut himself off, still staring into the sky. It was as if he was listening to something in the wind.

“Who is your new protégé?” His voice grew much quieter, but there was a hint of anger in his voice.

There was a pause.

“Free from what?”

“What form has his Geass taken?” His long, slender finger tapped the left lens of his glasses.

“How?” He appeared to be snarling now.

“Of course, the eyes are the windows to the soul.”

“You would know that, wouldn’t you?” His voice softened in the end. His finger slipped away from his eye and he sighed, tearing his gaze from the sky. He didn’t speak anymore. He only listened to the whispers of the wind, which was calling his name.
