And though I'd like to stand by him
Can't shake this feeling that I have

They had this connection via contract. She was there before the Black Knights - before the ace pilot, who was in love with the mask, rather than the man behind it.

C.C. was more than a comrade. More than just an ally. A friend? No, what was it now? An affair? It wasn’t that. Neither of them were married, but still they touched each other anyway. The pleasure gave them a sense of peace. It took his mind off the world and the battle plans. Off his losses and everything.

She understood during their first time. It wasn’t just for fun. He sought some comfort. Something only a woman could give. He could barely remember a mother’s love so she gave him something else. Rumors of her being his lover circled the Order, but she brushed them off. It wasn’t their business to know anyway, but her and Zero’s.

Of all of them, she was the closest. She knew his name, his face and his true identity. Everything. From where he sat on his bed, he gave her a glance. A tired one. It would be a while until they returned to the Tokyo Settlement. He needed to be reminded that he wasn’t numb. She came to him, shoved the helmet from his hands and pressed her lips against his.

At first, he was reluctant, but he would give in later. Lelouch’s hands found their way to her shoulders. She leaned back until her back hit the cold sheets, her hair sprawling all over his bed. He deepened the kiss while she unbuttoned his blazer almost effortlessly. Passing moments like that were rare, but they needed the escape.

The worst is just around the bend
