almost left behind

I almost forgot that I wrote this little drabble a few weeks ago. I posted it on Facebook, but never got around to putting it in here. Well, that shall soon be remedied.

Title: Grimm Circumstances

Format: Original Fiction

Notes: I sometimes get pretty wild daydreams while at work. This is only a small glimpse into the larger plot line my imagination was making up that day. So far, it's the only completed scene. This happens to me a lot, and most of the time I don't even bother writing down my ideas because they are not very tangible, but this one seemed to stand on it's own rather well.

Kyle held out his arm, preventing the boy beside him from continuing on any further. Nick gave his companion a quizzical look. "What's the matter?" he asked.

"It may be a trap," the dark haired boy responded.

Another quizzical look.

"I know it seems strange, but think about it for a moment," Kyle continued. "We get impossibly lost in a tiny patch of forest, and then just happen to come across a beautiful sleeping girl. She wakes, only to run away and lead us to some cozy looking cottage that is emitting the..." he paused breathing in through his nose, "painfully tempting smell of baking bread. If this little Grimm's fairytale continues, we'll be in a stew by nightfall."

Nick looked as though he was considering something. It may have been the logic behind Kyle's scenario, but Kyle himself believed that Nick was most likely thinking of how good stew tastes with fresh baked bread.

"Or," Nick said, dodging around Kyle’s outstretched arm, "our last two years of school just got a lot more bearable."

Kyle hesitated for only a brief moment before following his comrade onto the path that led to the back door of the cottage. Nick may be rash (and often times stupid) in his decision making, but there was no way that Kyle was going to let his reservations prevent him from experiencing life along with his best friend.
