Day at the range

Jan 09, 2012 22:18

Got up at 7:00am yesterday and went with Dad out to the gun range. He shot in a 200 yd "historical" competition with an M1 Garand. Out of... twelve or so entrants, 9 used a Garand; one used a bolt gun I didn't get a look at, one used a .30-40 Krag-Jorgensen carbine, and one used a .45-70 Trapdoor Springfield. Dad had fun and learned a lot, but since he had never practiced with with that gun before, he had the lowest score by a significant margin. He's told a number of people that before last year, the last time he'd been shooting was the Christmas of '76 when he shot some mistletoe out of some trees.

After the competition and some lunch, we got out our AR15 and put a number of rounds through it with the target set up at 300 yards. Unfortunately, it developed a tendency to eject the spent brass, but fail to chamber the next round. It was still fun shooting, but The scope Dad got is very particular about where your eye needs to be which is a real pain in the neck.
