I AM HAVING THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM!!! you need an ash coloured dye, the best one i found (that got the red out entirely) is "medium ash brown" by l'oreal preferences, but it was a shade lighter than my natural colour, which is what i was going for. but try it. it actually really worked, and didn't make my hair "ashy", it just got the red out. since then i used "dark cool brown" by 100% garnier (at the advice of the cosmetician) and it went darker, but totally red! such a bitch. i'm going to kill her.

if you find a "dark ash brown" let me know. because they just wash out and i'm definitely medium, not light-ish, which is what the medium turns into.

is there no "dark ash brown" by l'oreal anywhere? that seems odd! I think in order to save myself lots of $$$ I'm going to go on a few in-house dying experiments instead of going to an actual hairdresser who will ignore my desperate pleas of "DONT LET IT GO REEEEEEEDDDDDDDDDDD!" anyway. How long do you find they usually last?
SO! I will get back to you with a full typed and updated list within the month. Street Cents style.

i googled it, and "dark ash brown" DOES exist by l'oreal, but it's in the "natural match" line, so i don't know if it will last too long. i might give in and try it though. i'm going to keep looking. i know that different shoppers have different colours.
