Working part-time for the man, 15 hours a week, 9 months a year will give you 5K a year and a few pennies in a retirement account. No tax headaches included, no inventory to store, no interest to pay.

Don't they tell you in that MK recruiting pitch that you can "work as little as 10 hours a week"

Oh, you CAN work at little as 10 hours a week. Just don't expect to make any money. LOL As it is most people don't make much of anything working it full time!

My schedule C showed a whopping $1000 in income this year! If that isn't an executive level income then I don't know what one is!

As a professional tax preparer, the "write off" myth has been driving me crazy for years. Even my husband has pulled the "but we can write it off!" when we were in business together. Thanks for spelling it out so clearly for everyone.

The write off myth is stupid and persists EVERYWHERE. It's ridiculous. Obviously its a good thing if you can write-off things related to business that you'd otherwise need because you essentially get a ~20% discount, but you have to actually make money too!

Well, yes, but if you're being honest, if you use your digital camera 90% of the time to take cat pictures and 10% of the time to take before and after pictures of your Mary Kay clients, you shouldn't be writing it off.
