Beauty Time: Doing your own facial

May 10, 2010 10:13

Yesterday I went to Red Door and had a massage, but I am going to admit that I really wanted to go for a massage and a facial. There's just something about having someone else massage stuff into your face for an hour that appeals to me. Besides, I have been really remiss in my skin care routine since the baby was born, and it's starting to show. Someone actually told me I looked like I was in my 30s! And while it is true that I am actually in my 30s, I usually take pride in looking 10 years younger than my actual age, which would still have me looking in my 20s.

Alas, they did not have an opening for a facial anywhere near my appointment time for the massage, and rather than stay at the spa for extra hours waiting, I went home and did it myself using Mary Kay stuff.

Step 1: Timewise 3-in-1 cleanser for combination to oily skin. On and off. Easy peasy, this is how I always start
Step 2: Formula 3 Clarifying Mask. I threw this on my dry face and got into a hot bath, then left it on until it completely dried, and took it off with a washcloth. Does a great job of sucking out all of the oil in your skin, if that's what you've got.
Step 3: Microdermabrasion step 1: Refine. MK makes a home kit for microdermabrasion. You use your fingers, no fancy tool, and massage it into your skin for 2 minutes then wash away.
Step 4: Microdermabrasion step 2: Replenish. Now that you have brand new skin showing, this is a calming product that also makes everything start to feel Incredibly soft.
Step 5: Day Solution. Contains SPF 25 and Retinal Palmitate for age fighting
Step 6: Timewise Replenishing Serum +C --contains antioxidants from botanical sources. Encourages production of new collagen.
Step 7: Timewise Moisturizer for combination to oily skin. Holds it all together, moisturizes skin, and primes skin for makeup
Step 8: Timewise Firming Eye Cream. Because none of the other stuff goes on the eyes.

The verdict? As one of my customers once said, "I can't stop touching my skin!!" My face feels really soft and fabulous. My mother in law, whom we went to go see last night after I had done this, said I looked "glowy and relaxed."  My face looks awesome!

Certainly not something to do every day, but if you have the time to devote I highly recommend it. This morning I did a mini-version using just the cleanser, Day Solution, Replenishing Serum, Moisturizer, and eye cream, and it took less than 3 minutes.

And (shameless plug) if you want to put together a regimen for yourself, either for a once-in-a-while home facial or a daily regimen, let me know and I will work with you! We have products for all skin types and problems, so just ask, and I'm happy to help you out :)
