An Actual Date Night

Nov 02, 2008 11:39

Last night, Adam and i went on an honest-to-goodness real date with dinner and a movie and a little walking and a drive through the local woods and it was pretty awesome.

sparkybish  was nice enough to babysit (I'll be going to her house to do the same for her next week). She came over at 6:00. I had made dinner for her and Micah though Micah ate his before she got here. I ran upstairs to get dressed, and Adam came home from canvassing. He called Jackson's--a new restaurant in the Great American chain, because they don't take reservations but do take call-ahead seating. He called up to me to say that the wait was 90 minutes, so I said "call someplace more expensive!" which he did.

Micah was unhappy to see us go, but we left anyway and headed out to Reston Town Center (purveyors of Stuff White People Like). We actually found a real parking spot in the "close" lot and went to M&S Grill, which was practically empty. Well, like I said, more expensive. Their prices are about 10-20% higher than Jackson's. But since we don't do this often, we decided to splurge. They put us at a couples booth too, so we could be all romantic. Unfortunately, the nearest non-couples table contained a family with 3 children, so there went our baby-free night. We attempted to ignore the 2-year-old's antics as best we could.

For dinner, we had carapaccio, ceasar salad, and I had grilled scallops with cheesy risotto and garlic baby spinach, and Adam had stuffed salmon with wild rice and also the spinach. Oh and we had a lot of wine. LOTS of WINE.

When we were all done, we went to a movie. We missed the first couple of minutes, but we went to see Zack and Miri Make a Porno. It was really funny and cute, and extremely predictable but still lots of fun.

When it was over, we walked back to the car (we took Adam's car and it felt much more date-like to be in it because Mustang=Hot). We started going for a drive through the very woodsy windy roads at which point I looked at Adam's gas gauge and noticed it was on Empty. Oops. We took out my GPS and found the nearest gas station, filled up, and continued our drive. It got really cold in the car so we DID close the windows at some point, but it was still a really fun drive. I'm just glad we didn't get stuck somewhere on the road with no gas and no street lights, ya know?

We got back and Micah was sleeping and Maggie was watching TV. Everything seemed to have gone well. We were very tired and extremely full. I actually went through the stages of Full, Nauseated, Heartburny, OMG Going to Die, Zantac, Better. I'm feeling really good this morning, if a bit tired. It was a really fun night, and we MUST do it again soon.

weekend, movies, adam
