LJ Idol Week 29, Stage 3, Topic B: The Thing of it Is

I once had a boyfriend who left me because of my terrible temper. It's so funny to think of that now. Nearly a decade later, I am a fairly calm person who is pleasant to be around. If I met the me of ten years ago, I'd probably tell her to chill out and get some help ( Read more... )

You managed to achieve something I have only been able to do with the help of meds. That's a great achievement! Well done!

I used to get both emotional and angry, two reactions that really made my ex husband mad.

I'm still emotional from time to time, but as I'm still taking antidepressants, can remain calm in situations that previously made me angry and frustrated. I hope to be able to manage the way I react without meds, someday!

The funny thing is that after my son was born and I was a hormonal wreck, I really did have to go on meds for a while. But, it was really hormonally related and once everything evened out, I was able to keep everything in check without them

I do hope you can manage without meds someday, but I have to say that I was glad for them when I needed them!

I hope that someday I can feel good without antidepressants to help me. I'm not sure that time is now, though, as how I feel can drastically change in a matter of minutes. I guess I'll see what happens when life gets back to whatever passes as normal, after my separation from my husband is complete.

I am right there with you on the anger management stuff.

I now have a reputation at work as someone who is totally unshakable, that nothing phases me or gets me angry.

I laugh, and say "It's all just smoke and mirrors... I should tell you about the time I got into a fistfight with the linebacker of the football team in HS...Most Violent Female of my senior class..."

I consider statement like that to be one of the highest complements to me, because it has taken a great deal of work on my part to train myself to be otherwise.

You are funny and awesome.

Yesterday was the most shaken I have been in a long time.

I listen to self-help books all the time, and I LOVE them. Sounds like I've got another good one to take up, although I'm usually pretty good with my temper. For the same reason, really- I'm horrible when I'm mad and I know it's best to hold that away from myself.

It's really simple, and it speaks to more than just anger temper, so it is a good and quick read (or listen)

Good for you working on that. I had the same problem too about 15 years ago. I didn't use a self help book but writing sure helps.
