Red and Black Ballpoint Pens on craft paper, 2007.
Drew this sweet young thing while I was at work during a particularly slow shift and I felt like sharpening my drawing skills by copying this image off the internet. I got asked several times if the girl was my daughter. One person asked me if it was my grand-daughter. I must truly look haggard.
I wanted to leave a copy of my drawing behind for my co-workers but I didn't want to leave any evidence of how I bereft of productive work I was.
Going over the initial red ink stage with black ink really helped me to correct a lot of my original mistakes that caused the girl to look a lot older than she actually was and add a lot of extra detail. It also transfers nicely to black and white.
