Astrology

I may have to rethink my its full of crap position on astrology. Maybe my biggest problem with it was not knowing where to look.

I had my chart done by a friend, just to see if the actual breathing human working on it made a difference. And I got to ask the question what is it that makes me nothing like, and in many ways exactly opposite, of what ( Read more... )

And the Sun is just one of the many planetary influences. If you were born with a Moon opposition your sun (you could be born during a lunar eclipse!), you'd be born under a full moon... and that could be potent, just as much as a moon-conjunct-sun (a new moon).

As much as it's the biggest gravity force, we wouldn't have much of a solar 'system', if the only 'planet' (star) we ever read was the sun, we'd be horribly flawed.

I like the suggestion that someone else made -- that divination certainly can go hand-in-hand with astrology.

Whenever someone tells me they aren't like their Sun sign, I tell them "well, there are plenty of other planets and things to read" -- who's to say you don't have some interesting conjunctions, oppositions, or such. A cluster of planets in the sign before or after your Sun could certainly be a potent influence. You never know until you read it, either, really.

And, on a plus note, everyone has all the signs in their charts -- and all the planets, too. Just that some of the signs might be empty (I've got several), and then they're only useful for comparing what house they're against.

The astrology of those in India, Vedic astrology, I believe, is still a prominent decider of factors to many people, and has a much more practical use, too.

You managed to hit my hot-button topic, by the way, property-of-Hermes child.

Well, like I said, the person who read mine could point out to a few factors that converged to wipe out the typical Taurus personality some people say I ought to have (and thank the gods for that, a very boring personality that one, in my own humble opinion). The interpretations given made some sense to me (like I said above, looking around the moon sign I have is about as horrible a fit as the sun sign according to most people's interpretations; I was given one that fit better by the person who read for me and looked at my chart).

That said, I still maintain that people are too individualized for a system like the to be perfectly right all the time, it can be a helpful guide but not set in stone (admittedly, that is one thing that has me not terribly interested in using it as a divination system, because I don't believe everything is set in stone like that - you may believe otherwise, but that is where I stand). Right now a little of what I've looked into has been more right than it was before when I mostly had a sun sign and standard interpretations to look at - which is to say about as right as often as the odds dictate it would be when you compile a list of traits that long. Even still its far from perfect - after all like I've said a Scorpio or Scorpio rising's most well known quality is sex appeal and a high sex drive; I have neither.
