Catching up with an old friend

About a week ago or so, Renee and I went down to Barnes and Noble for a cup of coffee, and just as we were being handed our drinks the balcony door opens behind us and holy shit, its Dominic.

Many of you remember him as a former room mate of mine, lived with him for two years. After we parted ways when we left the ghetto (and some of you may also remember that he did make our moving process difficult, although I have long since gotten over that) and then I never really heard much from him, aside from the occasional email or text message usually about movies/music/video games/youtube shit that I simply had to check out (Dominic is the only person I have met to date that has some actual idea of what my tastes really are, as opposed to most other people that simply think well its violent so of course Gavin would like it (I've seen some of the worse movies thanks to such people, abominations like The People Under The Stairs and The Hills Have Eyes remake *shudder*), with only one or two mistakes (like thinking I'd like Saw II more than I did, the needlepit was awesome the rest sucked) he's usually very on target). It sucked, because he had been a really good friend at one point, but I also get that this is just the way that he is and hell its not like I haven't been busy with shit this last year.

We hung out at Barnes and Noble for a long time, catching up with him (sadly, it seems life is continuing to shit all over him, I don't get it the horrible luck some people seem to have). We made some vague plans to hang out at some point, and today he actually showed up.

It was nice getting to hang out with him again, especially as I've been finding myself generally distanced from most of the people I once considered friends (for various reason, most of which is just a matter of life changing, such as these things go). I was thinking I could probably stand to have somewhere to go, someone else to talk to every now and then, especially with my old social networks (such as they were) no longer available.

As usual, he brought me a new toy to borrow. Persona 3, which I remember my brother's girlfriend telling me was an awesome game last Christmas, but when I saw it at Gamestop I spotted the anime style (and I don't like anime, I just don't) and read the words "high school detectives" I decided she must be insane and put it back. He made a case for it at Barnes and Noble that it is a far more mature audience oriented game than it looked like it would be (apparently there is a serial killer) and, well hell he's been right about the other games he tossed my way before so why the fuck not? I do need something new to sink my attention into right now.

He had also mentioned a new album or two he'd bring over next time. Gods, its been even longer since I've heard new music, one of the downsides I guess of not liking popular music and currently living in gods damned rap country. I really can't wait. :-)

life, friends
