Too stupid to live
I wake up this morning to find this piece of epic stupidity on the ADF LJ community. For those of you who don't want to follow the link, here is the post in its entirety:
I'm a relatively new parent, so I haven't encountered this yet, but at what age is it appropriate to introduce kids to something like emergency procedures? Like me, I'm sure the rest of you are emphasizing good choices and gentle but firm discipline, however, when do you have the "brass tacks" discussion and practices about serious safety issues like fire, medical emergencies, and the police.
The reason I am asking on this forum is because I am wondering at what age do your kids start pondering God(s)? So ultimately, which could come first: awareness of threats or awareness of the divine?
Right now, our home altar is just ripe with things for picking up, examining, and/or chewing. Unfortunately, that may include knives. We are trying to shoo her away, but at the same time want her to be interested and remain involved in worship.

And why am I venting here instead of going over there to tear this idiot a well deserved new asshole? Because ladies and gentlemen, this idiot is my ex-room mate, the one we don't talk to anymore for very good reason. Being as how he lives with his head three feet up his own butt (and thus may well appreciate any newly torn orifice, gives him a vacation home) and would likely dismiss anything I say to him as bias on my part. But yet I just can not be quiet about this either.

I know you're an arrogant piece of shit that always has to have your own way, but really, your obsessive need to control your environment extends even here? Considering how badly you and your wife wanted to have children that you went and deliberately got yourselves pregnant when you were still living with other people and couldn't financially support yourselves I would have thought you'd make smarter decisions regarding their safety. I guess I gave you two dipshits too much credit, won't happen again.
This is not a question that needs to be asked. If you have an altar out with knives and things easily fit down your throat, and kids two and under running around, there is only one option: get that shit off your altar or move it somewhere where the children can't get to it!!! Well, I suppose there is a second option, mention this one more time in public and hopefully someone calls child services on you (and this is not bias against him, you all know I don't wish that fate on any child, but really: if you are too stupid or too arrogant to realize that knives must be kept out of children's reach you don't deserve to be a parent, plain and simple).
And if your concern is that you want your children interested in your religion (any arguments I might make that children that young are just simply not capable of being interested yet aside), then get the fucking knives out, replace them with something else. A child that young does not understand don't touch, doesn't understand dangerous, usually unless they have actually hurt themselves and I'm assuming you don't want that to happen. I got news for you asshole, knives are not that essential a part of any Pagan religious practice, they are not essential altar decorations, you're not doing it wrong if you go without them. There are situations that make knives not a good idea, like having young children running around.
The children come first in all things. You alter your life to accommodate them, not the other way around. There are just certain things you have to do around the house to make sure your children are not unnecessarily harmed, you wouldn't leave the kitchen knives lying out where they could get them so why would you leave religious knives out? Your altar is not some grand exception to this rule. The gods will understand (though if you let one of those children get hurt because you're an idiot, I'm not sure I could say the same thing there).
Apologies to my sane Norse friends, last I checked he was still worshipping Odin and Thor being as how he is a mighty and fearsome warrior!!!!!!!, so I guess this is one more thing for you all to be embarassed about.
(I know that Jesse has one friend left on my list here, I hope you understand where I'm coming from and under the circumstances this is not unwarranted, and furthermore I sincerely hope you can tell me that they have seen the light and did something about this so maybe I can sleep okay at night again)
