Yes, I have now been to Wegmans.
The Christmas present I bought for Renee as well as the last of my books that I ordered showed up at her office today, so we ventured up to Hunt Valley to retrieve them. We had to get something to cook for dinner and, as we were going to be in the area, Renee thought it was time I finally saw Wegmans for myself.
Now, I have not become a mindless Wegmans groupie, and I won't start verbally fellating it for an hour at a time (yes, people do this, I have seen them) and I probably won't want to have a long and indepth conversation regarding its wonderfulness (so be quiet, Becca :-P). Now, having gotten that out of the way ...
... It was definitely the biggest grocery store I've ever been in, with a much bigger selection of ... well, everything. The produce all looked good, as opposed to our local inner city stores where its really a crap shoot and even if something looks good now don't eat it in twelve hours and it will go rotten (plenty of it is rotten right there on the display). I even saw organic free range chicken that was still more money than I really want to pay for meat but better than I have seen elsewhere (I would prefer to by cruelty free meat, but alas we live on a budget and I have discovered that I just simply feel much better physicaly when meat is part of my regular diet; I can't afford $14 for three small chicken breasts, its just not reasonable, I wish it was). The prices in general were better than what we're paying at the two local stores (especially on things like cat food and cat litter), enough so that it may well be worth it to travel all the way out there to go shopping more often.
The place also carries Turtle Chexmix, one of my guilty little pleasures that I just have to have every so often. The only other place I've ever seen those sold around Baltimore was in the 7-Eleven over near where I used to work, in the first warehouse in the dangerous neighborhood; much as I like that shit, I'm not wandering back out there again to get it. So glad to have another place to grab those.
Candy section was my fun too. Rows of bins, grab a bag and fill it up. I could have easily pissed away a lot of money there, since I have been feeling a need for chocolate lately They had Jelly Bellies, and that's the best way to buy those, that way you get only the flavors you want and don't have to content with the nasty ones left over (fucking tutti-frutti, does anyone actually like that?).
Hermes had me buy him something, too. Just some little trinket that will sit on the altar I guess. Kind of sappy shit that I usually make fun of, I'm so embarrassed that I bought it. But he was insistent and Hermes gets what Hermes wants. :-P
So, okay. It was a decent place. Still not worth all the fan girl like hype. I mean really people, its a grocery store!!!
