Castle Rock Scramble

Feb 09, 2009 16:58

On Sunday, Joyce, Quinn and I went out to Castle Rock to do some hiking. It was misty and very pretty, although also cold and wet. We didn't actually do much hiking - maybe a mile and a half at most. Instead we spent most of our time around the rocks, climbing on them. I've always enjoyed rocks, and am pretty good at getting around/on/over them, but with my climbing lately, I found I was better at scrambling, too - able to get up onto rocks I wouldn't have been, before.

Of course, when rock climbing, I don't have to worry about how I'll get back down without killing myself. I'm on a rope, and the person belaying me lowers me back down. Not so for scrambling. Oops. ;-) Twice I ended up in places where I had to spend a bit of time pondering how I was going to get back down again, but did so safely. (I was never really higher than about 8' off the ground, so could have just dropped had I needed to)

I'd also love to go back when the rocks are dry and less slippery, and see where I can make it to. ;-)

Had dinner at Saturn. They were applauding and cheering everytime someone entered the restaurant. ;-)

Really wiped out, though. Realizing today I'm fighting off a cold.
