Its been one week since I started my sugar fast. It hasn't been easy, but I've made it through an entire week! I did accidentally goof up on Saturday, while eating dim sum with my in-laws. Hieu ordered thai ice tea and I took a few sips. As soon as I took them, I remembered that I'm fasting sugar and I just gulped a bunch. But, I was able to move on, without intense cravings after that accidental splurge.
Adding to the sugar fast, today I'm starting a "Daniel Fast". Our entire church is doing this as a body, fasting for 21 days with expectation of a spiritual awakening, deepened devotion to God, and spiritual revelation in our own life and within the body of the church.
Quick background on the Daniel Fast: there are two anchoring scriptures for the Daniel Fast. In Daniel 1 the Prophet ate only vegetables (that would have included fruits) and drank only water. Then in Daniel 10 we read that the Prophet ate no meat nor any precious breads or foods and he drank no wine for 21 days. In a nutshell, the Daniel Fast is a vegan diet with some more restrictions. (
