I'm planning on catching up on all my ep reviews tonight. Not being on the same schedule of everyone else and not being able to pound out my thoughts immediately totally doesn't help me. :(
I think that has been the problem with most of s6 before I get started in back-reviewing episodes. I like them generally. I'm mostly entertained. I'm not thrilled. I've not been since Zod. Sneeze was fun, I had run with Reunion; I liked Wither for what it was. But S1-on had wowed me often enough that I was like, that's my show. Even s4 had wowed me more than SV has this year. I want to blame JH for upseting the balance... but I'm not sure if that's it. Something is off. Network change? I don't know. Something is not right.
Hopefully it will get right.
Okay and now on to the episode:
- Chloe is a reporter, not an assitant. We get confirmation that she's doing real articles on section D (about pigeons, sadly). Chloe is all about the truth + proof now which is great. I think what is also great is that Linda was also a rookie - who did errands, who got sent out in the field to cover things, went to SV and shot up the DP ladder. She printed the (unverified) proof which I think was also good for the DP. And the Inquisitor got put down yet again. Linda pointed out the same thing Chloe said way back in Duplicity - that a story like that is front page for the DP and career making. Very interesting.
Moreso even is that no one can say Chloe isn't scrappy enough anymore. She took Linda down; EDlois couldn't take down thugs even though we've seen in Facade she thinks she can no problem. More on that later. But Chloe not only out smarted, out researched, but also out fought Lake. I think that's great. Linda told Chloe that in order to get ahead that she'd have to "grow some teeth." Thus far she's nto really been willing to do that to Lana, Lex, Jimmy or her cousin. However I think Chleo's teeth will grow in. They've re-emphasized that Chloe has work to do before she goes up, up - but part of reitteration is reminding the audience where the story is going. Also that no one likes "an over achiever." Totally going to get in trouble that way Chloe.
Jimmy missed his shot - which was great. And as
bluediamond421 pointed out - Jimmy called him Superhuman, two letters away from Superman. Additionally I think there was something cool/noteworthy that he's sharing his photos with Chloe first. (Also love that working with EDLois = a "Busted." IE something he's not supposed to do. Just interesting phrazing.) Chloe got it, and her needling about Clark with it was amazing. And the crack at the idea that Clois was "ROMAAAANNTIC" made everyone I was with laugh.
- I remain amused that for all the people bitching Chloe out for her attitude to Jimmy in Fallout and EDLois in Arrow, EDLois treated Jimmy - who actually found the piece of the puzzle that she really needed - horribly. I also find it interesting that (just like Lex) there is no big moment when she meets Jimmy nor when she kisses Clark (again more on that later). Chimmy's reuniting was made into Chloe's main plot in Zod; her metting Lex and their circling in Craving was also strummed up. We're shown Chloe actively meeting Oliver and others - it's just pretty unique. Additionally, I think it's interesting that we have both Wither and Subterranian with fully articulated team ups of Clark and Jimmy; quite interesing.
- Chlark had some country song behind them. Anyone know what it is? (I miss the WB pimping). I hate country. But I'd like to know the lyrics. And the "fight" was fun.
- EDLois was still pretty bad. I think she seemed less bad (and yeah that's a relative term) because Tom literally whiplashed through her scenes. In them she seems more nuerotic and the lines don't show as WTF as they really were. How did Jimmy get down there? When did Clark/Ollie set up their plan? Why would Clark keep going through with this? Lois suddenlly having issues with liars? Lois recanting the very spin she made up? The plot holes were big enough to drive a semi through; but doing it at a RILLYFASTPACE kept the focus off how bizarre the C plot was. So kudos for Mr. Welling for that. That second loft scene... horribly rush, horribly OOC, so at least they wham-bammed it.
Nice to see with her "Oh yeah!" that she fell out of love with Oliver for a super shove. Yeap, that's our Lois Lane. Well, maybe someones.
- Conversely I think he took a lot of care with the emotional weight of the main four. Lex's manipulations of Lana, Clark and Chloe's fight/flirts. Clark and Lex's big fight. The baby is soapish (and I still think Lana = the Contessa; death for Lana, but glad we see her enjoying how easy it is to be devious) but the shots for most of these seemed to be very, very nice, well planned; Clana was still manipulative and is dying slowly (I think when Lana finds out there will be a brief possible resurgence but it is so dead.). Chlana is the new Clex. I remeber reading that in S2 when Chlana femmeslash was the new rage, and I guess this really is S2 reversed like I've mentioned to so many of you in chats. That rift is so coming. Finally.
- Tori was camp. It was amusing tho. Is Linda hiding out and working for Lex? Is she dead? (I don't think she's dead.) And the cat fight, as said earlier, was great.
- Justin Hartley has grown on me. He and Erica have pretty good chemistry. Though I do have to laugh at the Lightswitch = Sports Bra. Sorry guys, we all still noticed. Additionally, having another round of near Lollie sex (not sure if it was meant to do this, maybe) made the TW/ED kiss look all the more awkard and unhot. And from a shot perspective, really awkward compartively.
- Jimmy and Lois wore yellow to Chloe's red. Who else wore yellow to Chloe in red? Pete. :D
- Clark in 'reverse' colors when he (1) goes up to Lana again, (2) teams up with EDLois, (3) fights with Chloe. Interesting.
Some other thoughts but they are probably spoilery.
Mom's eyecorrection went well today. So really, no one can bring me down. Ha.
