Dylan, this is where you should use the girls on your hall. And I mean *use* them in the most devious way possible.
You see how
the Katamari Prince earmuffs are sort of situated nicely on the model's head, and actually look...like earmuffs? Like they'd stay on her head? Yeah, that's not going to happen if they're just made out of yarn. I think if I didn't reinforce them in any way, you would have to bobby pin the earmuffs in place, and I would like to make these more usable for you. I think the *best* way to make them sturdier and actually earmuff-like is to attach a headband to them, somehow. I can go to Claire's or any other girly girl store and pick one up, but I don't know how large your head is. I think I could use my head as a model, since I have a fairly large head, or at least it was larger in comparison to my ex-roommate and her boyfriend's head. If you have female friends (or male friends, doesn't really matter) who happen to have a headband, try it on and see if your head comfortably fits in it. I don't know how perfectly it has to fit, since the earmuff portion is huge, but I want it to fit comfortably on your head. I don't think the headbanded portion will look all that great, but since it should be hidden by your head, it should theoretically work out. I hope. We'll see if my sewing skills are up to it.
The earmuffs are very novel, though simple to knit. Whatever I have knitted is nice as of right now, though I'm not done with them yet. I'm just slow. I do promise, Dylan, as God and whatever other deities that may exist as my witness(es), you'll have this monstrosity of a knitting project by Halloween, to scar and scare the impressionable.
I sort of want a pair for myself by Halloween, I wonder if I can crank one out since my DAT is done and I'll have some free time after next Wednesday? Ooh, looks like another Knitpicks order is needed! I think the Merino Style would make a lovely
We Call Them Pirates hat. Mmm. Add one to the knitting que!
And Knitpicks Merino style is utterly gorgeous in terms of stitch definition. I've knitted with softer and nicer yarns, but the crispness of stitches? Gorgeous. This is literally the first knitting project I've done where I've used the recommended yarn and in the recommended colors. Amazing!
