a midsummer night's nightmare!

right. so while visiting my old high school today i realized that the play that is currently running is a midsummer night's dream. i like shakespeare, and while i prefer the tragedies to the comedies i thoroughly enjoyed reading this play. and, my high school english teacher gave me a free ticket.

so i went, even though i was feeling kind of down and would have much rather stayed in my room. i have NEVER walked out on a theatre performance in my life, but i was not able to suffer through this torture until intermission. i tried so hard to hold out until intermission to make my escape, but once i realized that everyone else in the audience had begun to engage in conversation instead of watching the show i realized that it wasn't just me that found the performance to be somewhat less than engaging. and it was outside too. it was cold and dark and my hair was wet because i had just taken a shower, but really, that is just an excuse. in truth, the performance was painful to watch and i fear that poor Will S. is rolling in his grave tonight. oy vey.

on a happier note, i caught myself thinking it was odd that the male roles were played by men instead of women. it was rather disconcerting for the first few minutes before i was able to remember that outside of wellesley there are men involved in theatre and they often play male characters. oh, wellesley, how i miss thee.
