I created my first Twitter account around a year ago. Back then, not a lot of people had one so I only had around a handfull of people who were happily 'twittering' with me. I also created a Plurk account which proved to be an inconvenience since I was basically forced to update so my damn Nirvana wouldn't go down. I eventually erased both accounts a few weeks later since Twitter became boring and Plurk implied that I had no way whatsoever of achieving cosmic peace.
But people, seriously. Can somebody please tell me when Plurk became the ultimate way of achieving Nirvana???
But I digress. Anyway, (statistics break starts now) Twitter is presently the fastest growing member community destination posting a 1382% growth (wow, I thought growth only reached a hundred), according to Nielsen Wire - oh, sourcing what up. Hollywood personalities have taken to the Twitter madness, so much so that even Oprah has started 'twittering' as well. Larry King even dedicated an entire show to the so-called 'Twitter War' between Ashton Kutcher and the news network giant, with matching headlines and related mini-news stories scrolling along the yellow bar at the bottom of the screen. You really gotta hand it to Twitter's marketing staff: media overexposure or what, their technique is seriously working.
I honestly don't have anything against the people who Twitter, I just find the whole idea of it's instant fame amusing. I've had a bunch of friends invite me to once again re-join the Twitter community. I politely declined because quite frankly, I don't want to spend my time being bombarded with every single thought bubble that pops up inside a friend's brain. Facebook is enough to feed my interweb-imposed need for statuses (stati?) thank you very much.
I'm perfectly content with old-school blogging and the occasional tumbling down at my new favorite website. I'll leave the twittering to the birds.
