I've decided I'm overdue for a random act of kindness so I went to
anysoldier.com. The site lets soldiers (primarily in the middle east) post "ads"
for care packages or pen-pals for themselves or soldiers in their group who
don't get much (if any) stuff at mail call. You get their military address and
send the stuff directly to them.
While I don't approve of the war, that
does not mean I won't support the people that have had to go over there. So I
ended up picking four of them to send stuff to and went out and got about $200
worth of stuff to put in the packages based on their requests. I also went
through my paperback books and picked out about 20 books plus I'm putting a DVD
in the ones who said they could play them. I put together a 25 page printout of
humor I have collect on the Net to put in each package. I figured some good
laughs would go a long way there. Plus if they have jokes to read, they'll
remember some of them and tell them to someone else and so on.
I've
still got to type up some letters to put in them though. If anyone who reads my
journal would like to type a letter to soldier and email it to me, I'll add them
in to the packages along with mine. There's no way to tell exactly who it going
to since the person who requested it usually gives it to one of their people who
never gets any mail or packages. The site says to just write like you're
talking to a friend and that they really just like to hear from someone. So if
you want to write them, just email it to me by first thing Monday morning since
I'll be sending the packages out on my lunch break at work.
Also, I'm
still working on photos but have had to slow down to get caught up on thing
around here. I've still got probably a 1000 that will be posted if not more.
Just wanted to let you know so you didn't think I had forgotten about them or
all my Ren friends.
Best always -
Chip
