Take me home...

Figured I could toss up another update. I've started another blog of the same name over on Blogger. You can find it at http://mellohorn8d.blogspot.com/. I'm going to update it with the same stuff as on this one. Anyway, on to the real post...

So for the first time in 13 years I'm not in Lake Como, PA for the enitre summer. Some parts of me are ok with this, but as soon as I heard that they were doing bus and baggage my comfort being away from camp started slipping away. Yes folks, I'm a little camp-sick. I've been doing pretty well to keep myself from thinking about it, but the other night I was at a playground with my housemates and found myself stargazing and thinking, "This view would be so much better in the mountains." Sure I was also thinking about being at the lake house, but a lot of my lake house memories also stem from being around camp people.

Yesterday was the 4th of July and I was fairly excited to be able to celebrate this holiday without Lee Greenwood's "God Bless the USA" being drilled into my skull by 800 screaming kids, but even early in the morning I found myself humming it. This was one of the better 4th of July's I've had in a while, though. We went to Nashville's annual Hot Chicken Festival, which if any of you loyal readers ever come to Nashville, have me take you out for Hot Chicken... Its so worth it. Then the housemates and I came back and took a nice long nap for the sake of our digestive tracks and our sunburns.

I started grilling on my tiny grill around 6:30 which unfortunately is when the skies also opened up and let the rain fall... hard. I began to grow disheartened because I was looking forward to Nashville's Fireworks display (which is rumored to be amongst the best in the nation). As I finished up my delicious steak (something NOT served at Lohikan), the rain fell harder and the roomies and I decided to just skip the fireworks and get a movie and some ice cream... As we were driving to Blockbuster though, we saw the flashing lights in the sky and just had to drive closer. We got literally as close as we probably could in traffic and pouring rain, which was still a solid 8+ blocks away, but we were at the top of a hill and saw the whole show being splashed against the Nashville skyline. It was actually really cool and made my 4th of July complete.

I'm still a little camp sick, but I'll survive by just keeping busy (which ironically is the cure for homesickness in campers). Anyway, I really should go run errands, so I'll post again soon. Happy 5th of July!

Adios.
