"The Little Nemo"

I love "sick" days. Its a random Wednesday, quarter of two in the afternoon, and I'm still sitting in my pjs. Awesome. Except the whole work part. Thats kind of a downer. I'm home so that I can do college essays. And yes, I've made progress, but my essays still suck. I should never become an Enlgish major... So far, my two "better" essays have been ( Read more... )

um, i actually agree with matthew j. on this one, so you'll have to explain your argument more sometime, b/c i might not be getting it or something. like, how exactly will the presence of varisty help? i know it will fuck us over, but will it help? will they get more motivated? if they need to improve, they can also take the extra step themselves by going to the club or something. maybe some of them do, but i think it's obvious that some of them don't. plus, varsity seems to be doing ok with less practicing. yeah, we have practice on thursdays and they dont, but that's only two hours more. these one hour practices are a lot more concentrated than they used to be. so, i think the excuses of less practice time and non-segregated practices are just that: excuses. we should keep in mind what you guys were saying before the games (which is what you guys said before the game with them on saturday, too): north haven is a hard team, so maybe our JV team just isn't up to par with them yet, but we should watch them in another game before getting hysterical.

and on a final note: practice is what you make it. whether you are in the varsity practices or the jv/frosh practices, if you work hard and concentrate on what you're doing, you'll do a lot better. why the hell does anyone think i always choose german as my partner? it's 'cause she works hard and takes it seriously, and that's who i wanna work with.

Way to completely flip out over one comment I made... I simply said that I didn't totally agree with Matt.

Why? Because Morgan, they're been saying for a few weeks now that they've only been getting about an hour or two of practice (count it, they're right, no exaggeration). Theres no way thats enough practice. The club isn't open as much now that the season has started. Some of them go to the club AND take lessons when it is open, and it isn't helping them much. The one hour practices, are more concentrated, but not by much. Certainly not as productive as two hours, or even an hour and a half. The varsity is doing fine because we've had 3 more years of regular practing then they've had. People who have had less experience learn faster, for anything. So, they are impacted more. Plus, we get a lot more practice then they do already. Many ( not all, but many) of them are hard workers and are as into fencing as I was at their age. They work hard, but that can only get you so far.

They need to fence more experienced fencers, the varsity. They all fence the SAME way. They all beat attack at least 80% of the time. They are not used to people who parry riposte or use other attacks, like North Haven. If we fenced with them, they would have to learn to vary their attacks and to react to different manuevers. They have to learn how to fence people who know what they're doing. Besides, I remember when I was younger, the upperclassman would give me tips on how to do better during practice. Without Matt Lam and his parry riposte help, I would've sucked freshman/soph year. I honestly believe that with some advice, we could solve SO MANY of their little problems. It wouldn't "fuck us over" to help them, the captains were considering going to their practices everyday in addition to ours.

I'm not hysterical at all. I just said I didn't agree with Matt, and I'd appreciate it if you wouldn't jump all over me about it. So, this is me being defensive.

miscommunication, perhaps? shottythat684 December 22 2005, 19:55:29 UTC
um, i honestly didn't mean to jump all over anyone, but i could've sounded like i did in writing, i dunno. and i wasnt saying that you were hysterical at all, b/c i have yet to hear of you being hysterical, unless i missed it.

if i did jump all over you, however, you would know. trust me.

but yeah, i think my post came off sounding a bit more harsh than i intended.
