And guess what? It's not the National Censorship Board's decision this time!
I'll give you a minute to get over the shock.
Done?
Okay. So the story (as far as I can understand it) is that Amir Muhammad's movie Lelaki Komunis Terakhir (in English, The Last Communist) was passed with no cuts in April this year, with a U rating (suitable for all ages). Personally? I was surprised. Pleased, but surprised - the National Censorship Board isn't exactly known for being open-minded. The word one of my tutors used was "draconian", and I couldn't agree more on his choice of words.
A few days ago - I heard about it yesterday but later found out that it happened before that - the movie got banned due to Deputy Home Minister Datuk Tan Chai Ho overruling the original decision made by the National Censorship Board. His reason for doing so?
"The public was not very happy about the movie."
Oh, so sorry to have Amir Muhammad step on your pretty little sensitive toes, Malaysian Public!
...how would you know that you're not happy with a movie until you open up your narrow view and watch it?
