Dreamloss
I’ve found a way to forever here
It’s really not that far
But though I hate to admit it, dear
I’m lost without a car.
I see the way to infinity
I can fly above all else
I’m Superman on heroin
I won’t crash and take a hearse.
A dreamscape lies before me now,
Fight monsters and today.
Not paralyzed by anything,
No numbing mindless hate.
My brain turns on, mumbling through
A crude and hasty poem.
My eyes still shut, I realize
I’ve slept all day again
I curse my name, my day of birth
I kick myself again.
Another squandered, wasted day
Like suicide: the end?
From broken guise in sleeping time
A dream-bound warrior.
Must rise again, confront the world
Sickness without a cure.
I sit up, pry open eyes,
I check the clock and scream.
I’ve wasted every single chance
For that primordial dream.
That dream in which I’m not earthbound
Those dreams when I can fly.
I’d rather crash and hit the ground
Than wake and fail to try.

Has this poem been done before?
I’m rather sure it has.
My rhythm’s off and its all been said
Free verse and all that jazz.
