Ikea has these huge Monet paintings for sale now, and I can't help but wonder whether this would've been possible if copyright laws existed back then. True, there's an effective period before works are released back into the public domain, but at the rate it's going, we'd be lucky if we'll ever see anything created after the advent of copyright laws be released within our life time at all. Greed depletes culture.
