It seems that I've inadvertently become a supporter of national film productions. Sepet wasn't as good as I expected it to be, littered with cliched lines (it was, after all a love story, though still much better than Star Wars 2), bad acting and less-than-perfect plots. That being said, Sepet portrayed Malaysia better than any other film I've ever seen, even those tourism Malaysia fake-hand-gesture-bow (who the fuck does that anyway?) films, and of course, better than Spinning-makyongonthebeach-Gasing.

Issues of racial inequality, tension, interracial marriages, and ignorance were brought up, though under the cover of light-hearted jokes, were all recognized and laughed at by the audience. Makes me wonder whether the censors really had to cut away 9 scenes, just in case it offends anyone. I won't even want to imagine what'll happen to the film if Yasmin Ahmad were to be Chinese instead of Malay :x

The best of all was the natural rojak mix of 5 languages with everyone still being able to understand one another underlines the muhibbahness like nothing else (hell, I speak like that too).

Hati yang jujur, indeed =)
