have i mention that bern's on three days' leave? and so since yesterday, we have been spending time together, catching up with the 'going ons'. he has been wanting to watch kungfu hustle for a while. personally, i don't quite fancy stephen chow. this might be a swift generalisation, but i render his are mostly mindless, slapstick humor. which i don't quite favour.
since, he watched bridget jones diary for me, i reckon i should reciprocate. besides, oh-so fortunately, i managed to land myself with a pair of gv complimentary tickets. i caught a movie that i would otherwise have not, for free. so all's not lost.
some justifications have to be done though. i found the movie production to be rather un-chinese, if you get me. hmm. it has alil of the swing infused. it is especially so in it's opening. the quick introduction of the existing social unrest was juxtaposed fantastically with the axe gang's dance item. i was afixed. it was captivating. i could only go woah! the impact was definitely there.
then again, it was only the first couple of minutes that i was transfixed. thereafter, it was just okay. not exactly lame. but, okay.
so, kungfu hustle was unlike any previous. plot wise, it's like any other chinese movies - subtantially - none. i would put it's production/direction - again, it's only the first couple of minutes. i'm emphasizing, can you tell. - up with the likes of that most recent movie produced by zhang yimou, which i can't remember atm. caught that thrice. but most definitely, it wasn't because of the plot. which has conveniently slipped my mind or, was there? but more for the beauty in how it was done. not awesome. but, beautiful.
