I Am Not a Mexican

I've been feeling reminiscent and have been reading my old posts.  Boy did I write a lot.  There's so much to talk about, maybe I should take up doing a post a day or at least a post per week.

Saturday was the beginning of Commencement weekend at dear old SHU.  Mom had "volunteered" to help out by putting the students in place for the graduate procession.  At least she was able to leave after an hour, I volunteered (notice the non-quotage, it's because I actually did choose to do this) to sing at both the graduate and undergraduate ceremonies.  Saturday was the graduate ceremony.  My friends (Tarra, Stephy, and Alyssa) and a couple of other choir peeps went to meet Dr. J in the choir room fifteen minutes before the ceremony.  No one was there, all that was there was leftover Dunkin Donuts.  Let me tell you, I was very tempted to just skip the whole singing part of the day and just lounge with the sweets.  Of course that wouldn't be very productive and very unbecoming since I was wearing dress pants and powdered doughnuts do not go with black dress pants.   It's just fact.  Any-hoo, we all decided to head to the Pitt center, where the ceremony was being held, and after being rudely told to leave certain places, we finally found the rest of the choir all gowned up in the corner.  We all had a little something to say to Dr. J but we were thrust into performing, at least for the few bits of the beginning.  We only sang the national anthem and then the Alma Mater, no biggie.  Our bigger gig was the mass anyways.  We were given a short reprieve between the singing.  The four of us headed down to main campus where Steph had to retrieve her laptop from her car in fear of it melting.  Words of wisdom: no matter how much walking you actually plan to do in large heels will always be a lot less to how much you walk in reality.  Sheesh.  Stupid uphill.  Anyhoo, I ended up just waiting for them to return from the car since I already felt the blisters dancing on both my feet.  The mass wasn't so bad.  Not all the grads and undergrads attended but meh.  It counted as mass for me so I was happy.  Other than the claustrophobia that had set itself in from the beginning, the whole thing went swimmingly.  It hardly seemed that 5 hours had passed by, well except for when that one dude started talking, my God.

Sunday was part two to singing at the graduation ceremony.  This time we were here for the undergrads and we were outside on the field.  Good times there.  I walked in heels again but they were tolerable for distance.  I actually hitched a ride to the Pitt this time on one of the many club cars that was taking everyone up there.  I was invited by one of the hot graduates.  Hmm, maybe I should have started some kind of small talk.  *shrugs*  After getting off, I went straight to the Pitt and had no idea where the choir was.  How come there weren't signs for us singing folk, huh?  I went back outside and then decided (grudgingly) to head to the music room and see if this time we were meeting there.  Luckily I ran into one of the other choir members and he said that we were meeting up at the Pitt.  We headed back up, found nothing, found two more choir members, and found another way to the field.  Low and behold, the choir was set up underneath a tent on the left side of the stage.  Alyssa was there and Tarra wasn't but only because her mom forbade her to go, you know, being Mother's Day and all.  We were only singing the same stuff minus the mass songs.  Dear God, so long.  Oh, here's a fun tidbit.  The commencement speaker was Vince McMahon b/c his wife is a board member.  Go fig, right?  Actually, except for the occasional interruption by wrestling fans, McMahon's speech wasn't so bad.  I liked his message of not being afraid to fail, which is actually one of my biggest fears.  It was as if he was speaking only to me.

...

Okay, not that dramatic but kudos on the inspirational words.  The teacher that read his citation was my American Voices II prof and boy did every word sound like a knife to her wrist.  Harsh, yes but stunningly accurate.  *giggle*  I used the word "stunningly".  *giggle*  So Alyssa, Steph and me represented our group and boy was I thrilled to be the one in front of the mic. -_-  lol, so when our friend Kev was called Steph and me screamed and cheered and pretty much freaked out anyone near us.  That's an accomplishment if I do say so myself.  We cheered a little bit more maturely for Kruti.  I didn't realize how many people were graduating until we sat there waiting for two plus hours.  Of course, when one has plans for Mother's Day foodage then pretty much everything seems extra slow.  We found Kev and Kruti and took our pics and then we were joined by Racelle and Maria.  Good times.  I had to cut my time with them in order to have enough time to walk home and meet my parents.  Walking to and fro with a dress in wedges, not exactly a good time but definitely an experience.  My parents and I ended up having an early dinner at this Chinese place in Shelton.  Because we were the only ones there, the staff would not leave us alone.  Being serviceable is fine, but please don't watch us eat with the silly grins.  That's just *shudders*.  We returned home and dad told us that he can't find the PS2 and DVD player box.  That's not good.  When Kuya returns next weekend, he won't be happy about his lack of console, especially if his birthday present is a PS2 video game.

Yesterday was my return to another work week.  I didn't realize that it would be so boring in the morning.  Gah, I was put on register duty too, not fun.  I hate handling the money.  I like the book organizing and finding and the whole physicality part of the job, not the money...well except when it comes to the paycheck.

Today was a little bit better.  The most exciting thing that happened was that this girl tried to pay with her mom's check for her books but she was flagged for owing money already.  She told us that she had paid back that money but my boss told her she still needed to call this FedChecks or w/e peeps about it.  She said okay and left after we told her that we'd call her when everything cleared.  Turns out that girl was lying through her teeth.  The Fed peeps said that she still owed money and that she's been avoiding them.  Alas, the most exciting thing.  Oh, and somehow my pen went missing.  Not happy about that.

This Friday, after work, I'm heading over to my cuz Leonard's place.  I'm the first in the family to see it.  *is excited*  I'm sleeping over his place because Saturday is Levy's graduation and I'm hitching a ride.  While I'm with them, my parents are heading to Rochester to visit Kuya.  Along with seeing Leonard's new place, I get to spend time with his girlfriend Irena (sp?).  She's Russian and can drive.

...

Yeah, he hasn't opened up about her so fun fun.  This Friday is also the Shrek 3 premiere.  I want to see that movie.  I actually want to see a lot of movies.  This summer seems to be popular with sequels.

Oh, I now live across the school.  I'm technically on the Bridgeport line which is weird.  4856 Park Avenue, yeah that sounds right.  Well that will do for now folks.

Kiss a mule and win a pike.
