Bionic Woman

I'm completely non-plussed.

Michelle Ryan, nth special, didn't really feel the connection I should.

Katee Sackhoff sure feels like a star on this show. she completely owns her scenes and overshadows the *actual* star of the show... I consider myself rather unbiased in this, since I'm more or less annoyed by Starbuck and I would've been equally excited by this re-imagining of Bionic Woman with or without her, nevertheless I have to admit I'm impressed by the acting chops Katee shows off here.

I adore Jae, but I loved Will Yun Lee in Witchblade equally.

and I think, I'd prefer if Will (Chris Bowers) was somehow the main hero, but what kind of story would we get then, it certainly wouldn't be Bionic Woman, would it? however, Will is someone I immediately opened up to. you get his reasons, you're touched by his vulnerability and his hopes... Jamie (Michelle Ryan) on the other hand is... can't say, didn't really get anything from Michelle's portrayal of her except for confusion - and that is before *and* after the accident - and some strange disregard for safety; she knows her body has been enhanced and she can run faster; so she decides the next step is: to jump of a roof?! I dunno... I guess, she's just finding herself - that's probably the idea behind this show...

overall, I'm underwhelmed.

and what's with the awful hairdo of Molly Price's character?! seriously, if they are aiming for some kind of military-tough all-business woman, they're not achieving it with this hairdo; it looks like she'd spend an hour working on it and that's not really what this kind of short hair is supposed to suggest now, is it?

the big fight scene? meeeh. it had it's moments. I guess I'm spoiled after 7 yrs of Buffy. and I'm not really all that into girl-on-girl fights too.

as for the other main roles, Miguel Ferrer was a regular on all 6 seasons of Crossing Jordan, so I'm guessing casting him suggests the role is important, but I don't see it developing further from what we've seen here. same goes for the sister, I don't think much of the time will be spent dealing with Jamie's personal life, suggested even more by the re-casting of the part.

all in all, I was waiting for sth significant to happen to blow my mind, so to speak, and all I got was 'to be continued'. I guess, we'll see, come September. unfortunately, a grimace appeared on my face mid-way through and didn't disappear until the screen turned black...
