It was easy to fall in love with the soft sounds Ruki made as his chest rose and fell unevenly, his eyes closed and body nearly nude, open only for Reita’s eyes. He hardly noticed the way Reita looked at him, with eyes soft and gentle, his movements careful with years of imagination catching up to him. It was easier for Ruki to detect the lust in Reita’s movements rather than the gentle ones that showed Reita’s true feelings without a word actually ever being said.
Ruki focused on the way Reita’s fingers tickled his insides, the way Reita knew his way in his foreign body; it vaguely made Ruki wonder if Reita had experimented on himself or others. None of it really mattered when it came down to the basics, though Ruki was sure Reita had a belt fetish - it was the only part of his earlier outfit attire that was still residing on his body. It scratched his waist uncomfortably, but if it made Reita happy, it seemed the least he could do.
It pained Reita to know Ruki wouldn’t think of him any different after the night was over, after they stopped exchanging body heat in the backseat. His love wouldn’t be returned and Ruki was only unknowingly offering him an escape, a second best option at most. He was careful to store this night safely in his locked memories, memorizing the little tidbits he’d learned about Ruki, like how he adored his lower lip to be tugged and nibbled on. Reita had already accidentally split open Ruki's lip, and with his face a bright red, he'd apologized profusely, though the masochist in Ruki didn’t seem to mind it much, had merely licked the blood away and tugged Reita down for another kiss.
“Ruki?” Reita caught himself whispering after they'd settled down, his back leaning against the side of the car, the window chilly but his body hot to balance his temperature out to a steady warmth. Ruki's body felt more like dead weight upon his chest but Reita found himself too content to complain. Reita was sure his car would have looked suspicious to anyone who happened to see it, but he was hardly concerned about them getting caught. If anyone happened to be out to find them, they’d have certainly found them by now.
“Mmm? Reita?” Ruki mumbled back, pressing his face to Reita’s bare neck, conscious of how close their bodies were, of how likely their bodies were to start acting up once again in such a close proximity. If he hadn’t been so exhausted, Ruki was sure he’d have willingly tugged Reita down to start a round two of heated bodies and loud sounds.
“If..if I said I loved you, what would you do?” Reita asked quietly, nervously tapping his fingers on Ruki’s spine, trying to block out his own words as he focused on counting the bumps on Ruki’s spine. He only got to seven before Ruki replied.
“Say that love makes things complicated,” Ruki replied evenly, knowingly, a trait that surprised Reita. It stung in the sense that Ruki didn’t want him, most likely never would, but was a relief in the sense that Ruki knew. Ruki had his options --- at least, for now.
“Reita!” Kai laughed, head tilting back to touch the cement wall behind him, his hands pressed against it as well, the only thing really keeping his balance. “You idiot, stop tickling me!”
“No!” Reita replied, smiling as he leaned in to press a kiss to Kai’s lips, adoring the way Kai froze for a moment before leaning forward to steal another back. Their game continued for a while, both of them ‘stealing’ kisses from the other, Kai taking one while Reita took another. It didn’t take long for Reita to push Kai’s back against the wall, their playful manner from earlier slowly dissipating in favor of something more serious and sensual in nature.
This Kai - the one that could make heads spin with dominance or be as submissive as a slave - was the one that Reita loved, that Reita adored. Kai wasn’t Ruki - no, he would never be - but he was someone that genuinely cared for Reita. He wouldn’t cheat and, as far as Reita was concerned, he’d never said or done anything that implied he wanted to leave. It was the least Reita could ask for and the most he wanted.
“No games today,” Kai stated commandingly, pushing Reita away to gently press on his shoulders, indicating him to kneel. Reita was reluctant once on the floor, glancing at the unlocked door for a moment before resting his cheek on Kai’s stomach.
“You should know what to do by now,” Kai said easily, voice echoing throughout the room they were in, one that was deserted yet obviously in very recent use, if the clean clothes stacked in a neat pile in the corner were anything to go by.
“Yes.” Reita placed his lips on Kai’s waist, leaving soft, wet kisses, tempted to bite down and leave purple marks, only stopping at the realization that he wasn’t in control at this moment; one slip-up would certainly mean punishment in some form or another, something Reita certainly didn’t want to test then and there.
“So, as I was saying, the clothes are --- Kai? Reita?” Ruki’s voice cut awkwardly through the intimate moment. Reita hastened to stand up while Kai had enough decency to blush and smile. It certainly would have been a 100 watt smile had not Ruki walked at precisely that moment and had he not been completely immune to Kai’s smile, one of few. Next to Ruki stood Uruha, who looked more than out of place, shuffling from foot-to-foot.
“We’ll just be going…” Kai reached for Reita’s hand, quickly tugging them past Ruki and Uruha. Reita couldn’t help but feel that Ruki’s eyes had been on Kai’s hand, watching as Kai claimed his hand for his own. It wasn’t that Reita particularly minded, but it certainly seemed interesting that it would matter at all to Ruki.
A trick of the mind, Reita reasoned. It had to be his head seeing things, picturing something that he had once wanted. He reminded himself once again that he didn’t need Ruki to be happy. He didn't have to put up with Ruki's vanity or sometimes childish attitude. At one point, Ruki was all Reita wanted, all he'd ever dreamed about. There had been an opening for Ruki to take it or leave it, and Ruki had obviously chosen the latter. Kai was the safer route, the silver medal turned gold - Ruki was on the back burner, much as it pained Reita to admit it.
“Reita?” Ruki poked his head around the door, nervous for a moment before Reita stopped, gently tugging Kai to a halt. Irritation was evident on Kai’s face but he waited patiently, turning to Ruki.
“I just.. can I talk to you alone? Later?” Ruki swiped his tongue across his lips, wetting them. It was a trait he did when he was nervous, Reita remembered with a smile, recalling how Ruki’s back had arched right before-
“Reita? Answer him,” Kai interjected, tugging on Reita’s hand to bring his attention forward. A knowing smirk graced Ruki's lips for a moment, Reita was sure of it. Face flushed, Reita coughed, tugging Kai closer to place a kiss on his lips. It's purpose was aimed at Ruki, proof that Reita could certainly be happy with Kai just as much as anyone else.
"Why don't you go with Uruha, Kai? I'll talk to Ruki for a few minutes and meet you outside," Reita suggested, ignoring the way Ruki almost seemed to be silently gloating.
"Don't take too long..." Kai murmured into Reita's ear before following Uruha out. Reita watched the door slam closed before he looked back at Ruki, disappointed in himself to feel that nervous flutter when Ruki stepped forward, their bodies almost touching.
"He doesn't know, does he?" Ruki questioned, placing a pretty fingernail on Reita's shirt, walking his fingers upward to Reita's collarbone. He tugged the shirt down gently, watching with childish fascination as mark upon mark became visible beneath the shirt.
"He doesn't and I'm not going to tell him. You shouldn't either," Reita replied, placing his hand upon Ruki's with every intention to stop wherever this was heading. It surprised him when Ruki flipped their hands together, in a clasp that was nearly identical from that night. Reita gripped Ruki's hand tighter, unsure of what he was doing, only knowing that it felt right.
"What would he say or do, I wonder," Ruki said aloud, tone thoughtful, "if I covered his marks with my own?" Ruki used his free hand to skim a fading mark, experimentally leaning forward to press his lips there, somehow thrilled at knowing it was where Kai had placed his lips before, had already marked Reita and yet was losing his claim to this one spot of skin. He grabbed Reita's hand, placing it on his belt, smiling at the way Reita seemed to break just slightly.
"You always did like my belts," Ruki added teasingly. "I bet he doesn't know that, either."
"It doesn't matter what he does and doesn't know because he's not going to find out," Reita replied, stepping back. "Ruki, this is.. You're late. Really late."
"Aren't I always?" Ruki muttered, more on edge than before. "So you don't.. want me anymore?"
"If it was a question of wanting you, of course I do," Reita answered. "You think I can just leave Kai because you want me now. You didn't want me then. You want me because he has me."
"If I said I loved you, what would you do?" Ruki asked, quoting Reita almost word-for-word. It was a dirty card, he knew, but didn't desperate times call for desperate measures?
"Say that love makes things complicated." Reita reached out, bringing Ruki closer. He placed a quick kiss on Ruki's cheek before stepping back.
"Reita?" Kai's voice was somehow relieving to Reita, something to take him away from Ruki for the time being. "You were taking so long.. I got worried."
"I'm coming," Reita called back, running his hands through his hair. There was no sound of the door closing, a sure sign that Kai was waiting by the door. It was comforting to have someone waiting for him, someone who wanted his presence.
Someone who wouldn't reject him.
Reita watched out Ruki's lips opened, how words were poised on his tongue, only stopped when Reita reached out to press his finger to his lips. Ruki, curious, stayed quiet.
"Let it be our secret, Ruki? Please?" Reita whispered quietly, offering a small part of himself to Ruki, a part that Kai couldn't have.
Ruki thought about rejecting the offer, about saying how he had just as much a stake to love Reita as much as Kai did, but it all seemed pointless and utterly fruitless. He had waited too long and now Reita had moved on to someone else, someone who could better attend his needs. Ruki nodded in consent, feeling somewhat proud of his choice as Reita removed his finger and walked to Kai, taking the drummer by the waist.
It was funny in a strange way that Ruki couldn't quite place, how life worked out, how love managed to do what it did, play the role it was good at.
If he couldn't have Reita himself, he would simply have to settle for the part that Kai couldn't have. When it came down to it, Ruki realized, it was better off that way.
Love only did ever complicate things, after all.

I was at war with my writing to finish this ending. D:
Anyway, this came from 'exchanging body heat in the passenger seat' from Panic! At the Disco's 'Lying is the most fun a girl can have without taking her clothes off,' song.
