childishgrin wanted Fruits Basket and how I would end the series (regardless of whether or not I've seen the raws to the actual ending). Well, see, I have this love/hate relationship going on with Furuba...and I might have taken that out on this poor drabble. Possibly also I was mocking HP7. Who knows? I think I am sleep-deprived, actually. Please don't kill me? ~_~;

Kyo Sohma and the Deathly Hallows Rocks
by
meitachi It was a scorching summer day, the blue of the sky blazing against Tohru's eyes. She lifted a hand to shield herself from the brightness, head tilted up toward the gorgeous sun. A shadow fell across her and she looked up, smiling. Kyo glanced down at her and gave her a small smile in return, still hesitant and sheepish.
"Kyo-kun," she said happily, beaming at him, "it's a fantastic day for a picnic." A breeze stirred her hair and the blue ribbon fluttered around her head like a kite's tail.
"Yeah," he agreed, looking around at the rest of the present Sohmas, all clustered around two giant picnic blankets spread on the grass. Momiji chased Hiro and Kisa through the tall, leafy trees, their high-pitched laughter making even Akito smile. Hatori and Shigure had seated themselves beside the head of the Sohmas, looking relaxed as they chatted and smoked. Ayame was chattering at Yuki who appeared to be listening, for the most part, with an occasional roll of his eyes or retort.
Rin lay on the grass beside Hatsuharu, flipping through the last pages of a book as Tohru tugged Kyo over to her side. "Let's eat!" Tohru said excitedly, falling to her knees to lift the top of one of the giant picnic baskets she had packed.
They had chosen a good spot by the river, tucked in to the side of tall hill with shady trees to protect them from the blazing sun. The breeze was cool and Kyo had never seen Tohru happier. He knelt beside her to help unpack the food they had brought.
"Ew, leeks," he said involuntarily, shuddering as a tupperware container of his least favorite food appeared. He passed it off to Tohru hastily.
A long, dramatic sigh followed. Shigure had overheard and was waving at him. "Oh Kyo-kun, you'll learn to like them one day. You'll grow up to be a real man!"
Kyo growled at him and snapped, "They didn't seem to help you!"
Hatori chuckled and said, "He's got you there," which made Shigure pout and flick his cigarette at him.
Ayame abandoned his one-sided conversation with Yuki to drape himself over Hatori, murmuring something in the other man's ear. Kyo turned away, not particularly interested in the twisted dynamics of the older members of the Sohmas. The things they got up to. He grimaced.
Yuki came to his side and bent over to peer at all the food. "Wow," he said admiringly. "It all looks so delicious, Tohru-san."
"Oh!" She blushed happily, flustered. "Thank you! I learned a lot from my mother."
Yuki smiled at her and offered to go in search of flowers to help decorate, because "a meal that lavish deserves a pretty background." Kyo managed not to say anything rude about nancy boys though he did roll his eyes. Typical Yuki. He went to fetch the children back so they could eat.
"Oi!" he called, loping towards the three figures turning amateur cartwheels in the field. "Food!"
Momiji turned to look at him, bright-eyed and acting five years younger than his age, and then, laughing, he turned and ran towards the group. Kisa and Hiro followed closely on his heels, rosy-cheeked with the exertion of their play and grinning widely. Kyo put his hands on his hips and couldn't help a smile as he watched them. Noisy brats, he thought affectionately. Well, except for Kisa, but even she was falling to the bad influence of Momiji and Hiro combined.
The ground shook beneath Kyo's feet and suddenly he wasn't smiling. He heard a rumbling sound and felt a flash of terror, freezing him, as his quick eyes caught sight of rocks tumbling from the hill.
"Watch out!" he shouted, running. "Above you!"
The group was scrambling now, scattering with gasps and shouts. Kyo felt his blood pounding loudly in his ears, deafening him to even the sound of the rocks, as he ran towards Tohru. He had to get her out of the way, that idiot, what was she doing just kneeling there? Kyo could hardly feel his feet touch the ground as he lowered his head and put on that last burst of speed, throwing himself over Tohru as the rocks fell.
It was sudden and inexplicable.
They all died.

OMAKE:
Yuki shook himself and scampered up onto the large boulder, whiskers twitching. He looked right and then left, beady eyes darting. There was no one around. He sat alone for a moment under he felt a shudder go through him and he turned back into a naked human boy. He stared at the devestation surrounding him silently.
"God...dammit..." The voice was weak but unmistakable. A rock heaved and tumbled away and Yuki found himself staring at his redhaired cousin, bruised and battered and bleeding from a cut on his cheek.
"Yuki," Kyo said after a moment. He sighed. "I think we're the only survivors. Stupid fucking rocks."
"Does this mean we're responsible for carrying on the Sohma line?" Yuki asked.
Kyo paused. Then he shrugged. "Well, you're naked, I'm mostly naked. Let's get to it." He pounced.
"But we're both male," Yuki finally remembered to protest after he was feeling rather sore, grass sticking at odd angles out of his hair. He was still breathing hard.
"Eh, whatever. We'll adopt."
