Christmas Drabbles 2005
For:
emeraldcrystalPairing: Kyo/Yuki [Fruits Basket]
Theme: jealousy
Dedicated to You
Yuki wasn’t typically one to get jealous. If anyone were to get jealous, it’d much more likely be Kyo, who was loud and brash and jumped to far too many conclusions to be healthy. He reacted before he thought and often landed in hot water, or in the center of Yuki’s narrowed violet-eyed gaze, but he didn’t care. He managed to bluster himself out, usually; a special talent, Yuki often thought with a roll of his eyes.
In any case, Yuki was in most cases the calm-headed, collected half of the relationship. He rarely saw red, rarely felt a need to clench his hands and just hit something or someone. The scattered instances he lost his temper were always around Kyo, because the stupid cat was so, well, damned stupid sometimes, and maybe he had been spending too much time around Kyo lately because right now? Right now Yuki was so jealous he couldn’t see straight. He had to fight with every inch of his self-control not to leap to his feet and make a scene.
He was stronger than this, he told himself, ducking his head so he wouldn’t have to see, bangs swinging over his eyes.
The stupid idiot was still grinning and purring happily, completely oblivious to Yuki’s anger, to Yuki’s stomach-wrenching envy. He had no idea how close he was to getting jumped, fingers digging into his arm and dragging him off.
Yuki bit his lip and reminded himself that he was the one who’d chosen to get into a relationship with stupid cat in the first place. Kyo had initiated things, much to Yuki’s surprise because the only thing Kyo ever initiated between them up until then were fights, and Yuki hadn’t been able to stop himself from kissing his idiot cousin back. Not when those crimson eyes were burning into his and that lean body was pressing him up against the wall.
It was still his own fault though. Yuki had been one to accept Kyo’s clumsy advances, just like he was the one who chose to accept Kyo’s battle challenges, or ignore them. He held much more power over Kyo than he’d ever wanted to consider and he’d made the decision to allow their rivalry to become something more. A relationship that was both give in take except sometime over the last few months, Kyo had learned to take him for granted
He was paying the price now for his decision, wasn’t he? Yuki’s smile was insincere and bitter.
Another laugh from Kyo and then Yuki couldn’t stand it anymore. He slapped his hands on the table and, glaring, got to his feet. “We’re in a relationship,” he shouted at Kyo, storming his way into the kitchen. “Don’t eat all of Tohru’s cooking without offering to share any, stupid cat.”
