Ryoma walks out just as he nears the door.

“Where have you been, Fuji-senpai?” he asks so bluntly it approaches rudeness.

“Staking a claim,” Fuji tells him blandly. At the blank stare, Fuji smiles, diamond-sharp, and asks pleasantly if Ryoma could please wait a few minutes while he changed. “I’d like to talk to you afterwards,” he says as he opens his locker and places his racket inside. The place smells of teenage boys and teenage boy body odor-sweat of an afternoon of hard practice under the hot sun.

Ryoma waits on a bench nearby. Everyone else has left already.

“Do you want to come over for dinner?”

Fuji glances at Ryoma who is watching him with unwavering eyes. Lowering his arms, Fuji places his uniform top in his bag and pulls out his school shirt. “If you’d like me to,” he replies noncommittally.

“We can play tennis afterwards.”

“Hmm,” Fuji says, buttoning his shirt. “I’d like that.”

Ryoma’s grin is sudden and fierce. “Good,” he confirms, his eyes flashing in excitement.

Fuji’s eyes hold a different emotion. Still, as he slides his school jacket over the shirt and gathers his things, he lets nothing show. Serenely, he zips up his bag and slings it over his shoulder. He and Ryoma leave the clubhouse together and as Fuji shuts the door behind them, Tezuka rounds the corner, racket in hand and still in his uniform, and looks at them.

Ryoma doesn’t notice him, eyes fixed firmly toward the path home, already walking off and it is only Fuji who is left to murmur, “Ja ne. See you tomorrow.” Then he turns and jogs after the younger boy ahead of him, making a teasing comment about how Ryoma is such a terrible kohai, and wondering in his head if Tezuka saw what was in his eyes.

Notes: Yeah, I know, this is the most non-ending ever. But I want it like that. It's gen(ish) after all. XD; And it leaves room for your own interpretation or a possible sequel (ha!).
