OKAY I HAVE MY REAL APT NOW!!!!!
its a teeny weeny studio on 29th street between 3rd and 2nd ave.
it was literally a race getting the place, we were 1st out of about 30 other brokers lined up to see the place, i got there 25 MINUTES after it went on the market. we got only 5 min to privately view the apt, so i threw my broker's coffee in her hands and pushed her out the door and we ran back to fill out an application!! = )
damn it's $1,400/month though and I"m paying 15% of the ANNUAL rent for the broker. AND it is really really small. but i'm paying for location and i just need a safe place to sleep.
my parents hit the roof when i told them though, because my chinese is so bad that they thought it was $27000/yr. lol.
i will make it up to them. yup. all my work money.
oh yeah. I have a side job now. pays EXTREMELY well, and i do simple office work. i love my bosses (married couple) - they are the nicest.
i am so glad i am not living in harlem after all. too many weird men talking to me on the street!! on some streets i was the only person not black and they would stop and stare at me. read: stop using my ipod and hide it.
i asked a lady about the place, she said "this place is A SLUM!" no lie. and i saw enough police patrolling every so often to make me hesitant. i WAS walking alone in the sketchier parts near sunset.
wow i'm doing the proverbial "poor college student paying a ridiculous price to live in a shoebox in Manhattan."
