At first I was kind of nervous going up to people and asking them personal questions, but once I asked the first person, it was much easier to open up and ask the rest of them. I was surprised when people were excited to tell me where they came from, and tell me their ethnicity. They were very proud of their background and culture. It was interesting hearing all the different accents, some were easy to connect to where they had come from, some weren’t so easy. I could easily tell Andrea had a British accent, but I wasn’t sure where Kristoff was from at first. I thought that Jared was British as well, when in fact he was from South Africa. I didn’t pry to deep into their backgrounds though it would have been very interesting, I though I better stick to the required questions, and not take 20 minutes out of this persons time asking them about their life in their country of origin. Interviewing all of these people from all of these places made me interested to learn more about these places, maybe even go visit them one day, especially South Africa. I have a lot of respect for people who come from different countries, because no matter what the culture is always different, whether it drastic or only slightly. Yet none of these people seemed out of their element, though they all were proud of their cultures, they have adapted very well to American culture. One wouldn’t be able to tell they were from anywhere other then here by just looking at them. America is a melting pot of different people from near and far, with different races and lifestyles. I think it would be interesting for an anthropologist from another country to come here and study our culture, simply because we have so many subcultures. America is almost a mixture of many subcultures rather then one joined culture.
