Two things to start...
1. Neil Patrick Harris and the end of How I met your Mother and it's Doogie Howser spoof FOR THE WIN!
2. MAROON 5 and Counting Crows are ON CRACK! ONE ticket to their tour this summer with Counting Crows is 147 dollars. I paid less than that for my front row PAIR of tickets at Madison Sq Garden this past fall. Soundcheck tickets are 247 a piece...WTF! Glad I had decided to not go.
In other news...I saw Juno (no, not the movie!) at Encores this weekend and saw the Tyler who was magnificent in his act 2 one armed ballet and his emotional performance was heartbreaking. Something so very different to see him do. Love him and it was so good to see him again and have "sweet" convos. Victoria Clark, Celia K-B, Michael Arden, and Clark Thorell were wonderful too. The 2 main male leads? BLAH...couldn't understand a word they were saying for one. You could see why the show flopped way back when..but some of the songs were so pretty and the dancing was awesome.
Also, I saw Cry Baby....and I'm mixed. While I was entertained and enjoyed myself...I have issues with the book and some of the songs.
*SPOILERS*
Anytime Harriet Harris sings...it brought the show to a complete halt. Her Act two "i did something wrong" song went on wayyy too long. Alison and Cry Baby jumping right into falling in love...didn't work for me. I mean 4 mins into the show and you're head over heels? ehh. Speaking of which...James Snyder so didn't do it for me and didn't really connect with the character. Sure he's a charismatic performer and can sing and dance well..but that's it. and I didn't think he had the necessary chemistry with Elizabeth Stanley. I think Elizabeth Stanley was adorable and I enjoyed her performance. She brought that naive April from Company quality to the role at times too. Though one song was so very high..and I wish they would bring it down so she could really sing it. Christopher Hanke and Ali Mauzey pretty much steal the show at points. The music for the most part was great and upbeat, but I feel like almost every song was an Elvis rip off and hound dog would bust out at any min. Same with Ali's big song..it was a direct rip off of Patsy Cline's Crazy. The ensemble though has to be one of the hardest working on Broadway right now. The choreo was insanely good and deserves a Tony nod...but alot of the show was staged similar to the Wedding Singer - dancing ensemble transitions, etc. Also, I feel like it was going for that campy vibe of Xanadu at times but never really gets there. Anyway..I was entertained but I'm waiting for the critics to rip it a new one.
*END SPOILERS*
Also, had some fun and funny long convos over food with Joel...and I managed to step off the corner wrong and sprain my ankle which is now partly swollen..sweet. Actually "sweet" was the word of the day, btw.
