Pick a title..go with the weather...or Paulette commenting on Kyle...
The 10pm train to NJ was the last one that made it into NJ from the city according to the conductor. We had to back up at Newark and get on a different track bc the one we were on was flooded. We finally leave Newark after an hour and I look out between Newark and the airport stop and all I can see is WATER...everywhere..and two small rails and the conductor saying "this train is now a boat". The train rails were barely visible. The train went about 2 miles an hour thru the lake...and you could hear the water hitting the sides of the train. It was pretty damn scary for about 15-20 mins as we went thru that. I was happy when I finally saw the Best Western approaching the airport rail station. We finally got thru and the conductor told us no one else was getting thru til the water subsided and everything was held up behind us so I guess I was lucky to find a cab as quick as I did and run to make that train. The cities in North Jersey that we passed were under water. We passed a car dealership with water up to the hoods of the cars and a few buildings partially submerged and numerous roads flooded out and blocked off. I didn't get home til after 1am. I was supposed to get in by 11:30. Glad I had off today. One of the two crappy things about the day was the weather.
I had brunch at Eatery (so yummy!) with Bill and caught up with him which was great. I'm getting his tour of 9th Ave eats...lol.
Hairspray was something fabulous yesterday..the cast was so ON...it was great. Shannon was at the best I've seen her. Gretchen was on as Amber which I hadn't seen before..and I was thrilled to catch that as she rocks every role she covers. BUT..Cunio was Corny Collins!!! and consider me "over the moon" about FINALLY catching him covering Corny. He couldn't believe I had never seen him as Corny. So glad I got to talk to him for a few as he usually rushes out. I loved his smoothness, cockyness, and snarkyness as Corny...and he throws in some crazy falsetto here n there...it was beyond great. Paul and Shannon's BCEFA speech was a riot and Paul rubbing himself all over Ashley and teeney screaming was hysterical. Ash turned about 3 shades of red. Stage door had a few drizzlies...but no barricades and very few people. I stayed mainly to catch up with Shannon as I had something for her and the short version is - I ended up meeting her mom who was so sweet, her cousin and another relative of hers (her aunt, I think?). So glad that her contract was extended again! Does it bear repeating in here that she's one of the nicest people on Broadway?
Grabbed a quick Lucky Burger dinner with Courtney who surprised me outside of Hairspray since I never got her texts and email and caught up with her quickly. She was headed to Bee and I was headed to Blonde.
Blonde was AWESOME. LOVED IT! There's some slow moments for me (Serious as a song really didn't do it for me, for one)..but overall the songs were great..I really really enjoyed it and judging by the audiences response and show stopping applause at points...omigod, it's a hit! I'll definitely be going back soon. Andy getting porn music was a riot...and his many characters had me cracking up. Laura Bell and Orfeh were fantabulous. I loved Jerry Mitchell's choreo. A few very awesome visual effects. How the hell Nikki Snelson does "whipped into shape" without dying is beyond me. oh and Leslie Kritzer can do no wrong in this show and Annaleigh Ashford who was the perfect ditz were some great casting..as was Natalie Joy Johnson.
