Remembering

first, thanks for showing me that livejournal isn't dead yet (!)

i've never been a fan of 'days'. mothers 'day'. thanksgiving 'day'. it's always struck a bad chord with me. i actually find it a little depressing. not that any of things shouldn't be celebrated, but that we have to be forced to celebrate. like we don't love our mothers every day, or we aren't thankful every day. i'm all for celebrating and appreciating and respecting, but that we can't do it on our own accord is weak.

remembrance day fell into the feelings of 'days' for me, but it surely stands out, and more and more it continues to separate itself. i think about war all the time and i always have. from the sword to sword combat of old to our modern day bombing wars. i would never disrespect the day, and i think it's a good thing, because so many people need to be reminded, and i'm sure it can snap people out of their slumbering mentality and remind them of past sacrifice.

but all that said, if i happened to be in a similar situation, it could easily bring tears to me to stand in a communal setting with the past flowing through us, be it the insanity of our leaders, or the brave souls who risked losing it all.

shit gotta get back to work......peace
