Just got back from a drink with Jess and Karen. Along the way back, i was thinking about a case in a hospital. Patient A is severely sick when she got in the hospital. His limb had raw rashes and it seems to spread fairly rapidly to the thorax region. Long story short, the dog may have severe flesh-eating bacteria infection. The doctor in-charge suspected the cause but didn't have the courage to amputate the limb before the test result confirm the diagnosis. The doctor knows if it is really flesh-eating bacteria, the patient WILL died before the test result's out. Patient died before the result are out. Patient have had flesh-eating bacteria infection.
I started to think what would i do if i am in the doctor's position. Was it the cowardliness of the doctor (who doesn't stand up for what he believes) that caused the death of the patient? Is it justifiable that the doctor were afraid of wrong diagnosis that would eventually cause the lost of the innocent limb. Even if the doctor were to proceed with the amputation, and the result were negative, will he be able to sleep well that night knowing he did what he did to save the patient's life? (even if the diagnosis was wrong?) Am i making sense?
Anyway, that aside, i got home, showered and had my lonely dinner in front of my computer. Now, i am going to attempt to study a few more pages of my text and then talk to someone who is dear to me later tonight.
