Chimpy just came back from a talk organised by the Murdoch Uni Wildlife Association (MUWA) he is actively involved in. The speaker is Grant Pereira from Singapore and he is the board of advisor for Sea Shepherd Conservation Society + he is also actively involved in Friends of Asia Elephant, Orang Utan Foundation (Indonesia) and The Green Volunteers (Singapore).
The talk bring Chimpy into details of cruelty/deceits of the Japanese Whaling activities. Under the law, they are allowed to do so in the name of "scientific research". The spoke-person of the whaling operations claims that the whales are killed for researche purposes and they do not suffer in the process of killing them. He also claimed that whaling is the pride of the nation and, by interfering their whaling activities, we are hurting their nation's pride. He said "....a nation without pride, is a nation not worth having..."
So.... chimpy thought: Are they doing all this because of their Pride? Are they safeguarding their pride at the expense of the life of thousands of harmless whales? Base on what ethical values they have to justify their act? Have they ran out of other fishes to eat and they have to eat whales? ( imagine the lucrative economic values if whaling are "legally" approve )
Admirably, the Sea Shepherd fleet will go to the Antartica where the Japanese whaling fleet operates and stop them from whaling. They would go between the fleet's harpoon and the whale and act as a "Human Shield" to protect the whale. They also ram their boat into the area where the fleet reel-in the whale. Chimpy does understand the concern that, many thinks they are doing it to the extreme but is there any other way to stop them there and then? The GreenPeace is also against whaling but they are just "protesting spectators" who filmed the process of the killing but not get involve physically. (what's the point?)
Right now, the Sea Shepherd still have the right to stop their activities. However, if they can't get enough country to support their cause next year, the japanese will win this long-fight battle and, when that happen, one can imagine the irreversible destruction they can have on the whales. As we are speaking, their "warriors" - R/V Farley Mowat - are already on their way to stop the barbaric whaling. Currently, they are docked in Melbourne.
Friends of chimpy, give it some thought.... i know many are busy with their lives and jobs but there might be other "larger things" out there that needs your attention/help/support? Click here to see them
