Silent Solace, A Year in Reflection and my Top 10 of 2008.

Dec 23, 2008 17:54

It's the end of the year.

For me, this is a time to look back, to reflect on the past year, to see what I've learned over the previous months, what I've enjoyed, how I've grown as a person. While winter is a time of ending, a time of death--it's also the beginning of the new cycle. Every beginning is some other beginning's end. So with this New Year comes renewed hope, renewed life, it's our "dash". From beneath the bitter snow, lies the seed that in the spring becomes the rose. (Yea, make fun of me for that quote. Do it.)

"Know what's weird? Day by day, nothing seems to change. But pretty soon, everything's different."
-Calvin and Hobbes

So much has changed over the past 12 months. Though I know it’s all for the better. I a long time ago decided I wouldn’t regret anything. What you’ve done makes you who you are. To regret what you’ve done means you regret who you are; and that’s just not acceptable to me. If I had the chance to go back, I’d do it all over again. Though, I’m not sure I’d want to go back.

Looking into the future, I have no idea what next year will hold, but I’m excited. Really excited.

My Top 10 Songs of 2008

These song's weren't necessarily released in 2008, they're just my favorite songs from this year. If you don't like this list; bite me.

Also; these are in no particular order. If you want me to order it, I will. Otherwise, meh!

Just Dance - Lady GaGa
OK; this song is just one of those songs that when you're in the club, in the bar, hanging with friends, is so fun to sing/dance to. Oh, and the video… Hot damn, if you've never seen it, it's pretty amazing.

Soul on Fire - Spiritualized
I just found this song recently, but man, it blew me away. This could easily top my list if I made it a numerical list. Perhaps it’s just because it’s recent, but it's quite the amazing song. Since it's so recent, and relatively unknown, it's not like it's got much significant memories attached to it.

Paper Planes - M.I.A.
If there's a song out there which could mock everything that is pop-rap music right now, this song would be it. It’s just got a swagger that I loved. That and it’s catchy, and fun to sing, 2 things that are keys to my musical taste.

Don’t Stop the Music - Rihanna
Driving bass, great song for a dance floor, and I’m totally enamored with Rihanna. Everything about her is amazing. Yea, I know.

Still Fighting It - Ben Folds
This is one a song that wasn’t released this year; however, it’s another regular on my iPod. It’s hard to sum up the relationship I have with my father. This song does as good of a job as words can. That’s really all there is to say about it. It’s a must listen, if you’ve never heard it.

If I Could - Jack Johnson
This song is my philosophy on life and death. It’s in my opinion, Jack Johnson’s best song. I listened to it a lot back when my grandmother passed away, it helped me tremendously. Though it’s a short song, there’s so much wisdom fit into it. This song is the perfect winter song in my opinion. It’s the leaving of the old, the arrival of the new; the death and rebirth.

You're Gonna Go Far, Kid - The Offspring
Wow, what a song. It was what I needed from the Offspring. This CD was true classic Offspring quality, and for that the CD has earned a spot in my visor-clipped CD case. This song is raw, deep lyrics, catch beat, attitude, and the brilliant over use of the word fuck. I love it.

Bruises - Chairlift
This song was the song that helped me find my inner-child. It’s just such a fun song to sing along with and its one of those songs (much like I Will-Sowelu) that you just can’t sing along with and not smile.

Whatever You Like - T.I.
This song is a guilty pleasure, much like my brothers strange love of a certain Fergie song; I just can’t get this song out of my head. I swear, Timbaland must have had something to do with this song, because this song is amazing.

I Thought I Saw Your Face Today - She & Him
I just learned of this band yesterday (So how did it make my list?) Well, it’s just that awesome. You know the woman Joy from ELF (The blond who sings) also the older sister in Almost Famous; this is her band. She’s got the voice of… well, idk, its just fucking awesome.
