BellaOHOT Prologue 3

Simmer’s Note… I’m resizing the pictures on this one. The smaller pictures are annoyingly … small.

Happy Birthday to you

Happy Birthday to you

Happy Birthday… dear Bella

Happy birthday… to you!

Hello again! I see you made it for my birthday party. Today, I am a teenager at last. My parents threw me a small party, as promised. Really, it was only us and Mortimer. (He had his birthday not to long ago, too. I’m glad because I don’t know what I would do without my closest friend.)

Small or not, my party was fun. We had cake and ice cream and played video games all night. Dad even called Mortimer’s father to ask if it was okay for him to sleep over, since it was pretty late. Mortimer had to bunk in my brother’s room, though, since… you know… we aren’t kids anymore.

I never really thought about that sort of thing, you know? Mortimer is just… Mortimer. He’s been my friend since kindergarten and that’s a really long time. I guess it raises eyes brows because he’s a guy and I’m a girl, but … I just never really thought about.

Obviously other people have, because when I walked home with him the day after my party, his mother pulled me aside for a ‘woman-to-woman’ talk, as she put it. ::rolls eyes::

She said that she understood that Mortimer and I were close… but that he didn’t need to be getting hooked up with… how did she put it? Some little chippy.

I was speechless. I’ve been coming over to Goth Manor since I was five, and I’ve never felt as unwelcome as I was at that moment. I was speechless.

Lucky for me, Mortimer wasn’t. He’d come downstairs after his shower and heard the ’some little chippy’ part and didn’t need to hear the rest to come to my defense. I’ve never heard him raise his voice to his mother before, but the next thing I knew he was telling her that she should keep her opinions of his friends to herself. Who he chose to hang with or date was his own business.

DATE!?

I have mentioned that I love Mortimer, right? He’s my best friend, of course, I love him. But I don’t know if I’m ready for that kind of love or if Mortimer is the guy who I’m going to find it with. He’s… you know, Mortimer.

Anyway, after that, Cornelia (that’s his mother, right?) goes all cold and calm. You could feel the rage in her eyes as she forbade me to come into their house again.

So… I have been banished from Goth Manor. At least for now. Mortimer thinks that she’ll cool down and realize how silly it is to worry about… well, me.

In the meantime, it’s not like I don’t have a lot going on. There’s school and house chores and you know… stuff.

Mom and Dad bought me an easel and art supplies for my birthday. I’m not sure that I’m any good at painting, but I’ve always wanted to try. So I signed myself up for an art class at the school. It was a lot of fun and Mr. Bozzo (he’s our art instructor) says I show a lot of promise. He’s assigned us a project, too.

Our project is research someplace here in Sunset Valley, then go there and paint it. Or paint something that it inspires in us.

It doesn’t seem like such a bad project. I was telling Mortimer about it during an online chat session (this is what we are reduced to now… sneaking around behind his mother’s back just to talk to one another) and he suggested Pleasant Rest, the graveyard. Of course he would say that, though. It’s right next door to his house.

Yeah, guess what I am doing my project on?
