Last time on the Chex Mix… Ivey grew up, the Time Machine Twins went to boarding school and returned… and Isabelle seduced a maid. This time…
Isabelle is starting off her stint as legacy heir by beginning a new novel.
Upstairs, Lolly works on a new painting.
You all remember Maxwell, right?
Isabelle can’t seem to stay away from him, even without the time machine interfering. This has been going on for a while now, honestly, and neither of them seem in a hurry to move the relationship to the next logical level.
Down in the nectar cellar, a new arrival pops out of the time machine.
He picks himself up off the ground and brushes the dirt from his futuristic suit.
Heading into the house, he stops to entertain the cat. Like you do.
Isabelle might have heard him if she hadn’t been praying at the porcelain altar. I think all that woo hoo might be catching up with her?
The new arrival finds her and quickly introduces himself as Jager … her son. “You are Isabelle, correct?”
“Yes.”
“And my father is Maxwell.” He said it, not asking a question.
“I-I… guess?” Isabelle stammered. She knew that those sorts of things happened in the time vortex but she vaguely recalled the night she had been compelled to take Maxwell into the wine cellar. She had thought it was a dream… and yet, here was living proof that she had.
She offers him a place to stay, should he want it. When her brother Izreal had arrived, he had refused to stay in the family home. Said it wasn’t safe to be around the time machine at all. She was beginning to wonder he wasn’t right about that, but what was done was done. And telling your only son that he can stay seemed like the right thing to do.
Jager thanked her for the invitation. But he also warned her… “The time machine is dangerous. You, who were born of the time vortex and raised in the past of this world should know that more than any. It must be destroyed.”
Isabelle was not sure what to think of this warning. Izreal had said the same thing, but the time machine belonged to her parents and it was their decision, wasn’t it?
“Why?” she replied, needing to know more.
Jager hesitated. “No,” he said with a shake of his head. “I dare not say more at this time. That which dwells in the heart of the time vortex is strong after its use. We must wait, ere we speak of it again. But be wary, and stay clear of the machine.
Jager as after a makeover… not that it matters. He continued to wear his space suit the whole time.
Isabelle calls Max over and tells him about Jager. She also mentions that she’s been having morning sickness. He takes it well, all things considering. There is, however, no talk of changing their relationship status, him moving in, her moving out, or anything of the sort.
As time passes, her pregnancy begins to show … and there is still no sign that she wants to make max a more permanent part of her life.
Which is all well and good, because the house is someone crowded anyway, and it’s hard not to walk down the hall and run into stuff like this.
Lolly finishing another painting.
And playing with the doll house. She kind of misses having kids around. Ivey grew up so fast and all her other children came out of the time vortex… almost like they were never really hers.
Random shot of the cook book Lolly is reading. It has the same recipes on both pages, only flipped.
Jager is excited about his mother having another baby. He always wondered if he had any other brothers or sisters out there in the wide, wide world. Now, he knows that he did.
It is Hunter who takes Isabelle to the hospital when the baby finally comes. Max was busy working a late shift and simply could not get away. But he did call, several times, to check on her.
Welcome Jason Chex, the Gen 10 heir… if there is such a thing as a Gen 10 heir.
Jager and Hunter playing dominoes. Jager is enjoying the opportunity to get to know his true family. Being raised in the future, he has a skewed and much different view of their true selves or lives. And in all honesty, he is still hesitant to tell them what he knows. The truth. But spending time with them affords him the chance to decide how much, if anything, to tell them about their future… and their origins.
Burning off the baby fat.
Fail.
Jager finds peace in the garden with his grandfather. He is not even tempted to venture back to the wine cellar. As he told Isabelle… it is dangerous and not to be trusted.
And lastly, a shot of the bedroom they made up for him by converting the very unused attic into actual living space. It is much better than the cell he occupied in the future. Jager is very content in this life. He only wishes it wouldn’t come to an end.
Simmer’s Notes: Technically speaking, this legacy ended when Jager stepped through the time machine, but as he an elder, I don’t feel that’s very fair. So Jason is the official end of the challenge for me. In the interest of seeing him grow up, however, I will have two and a half more updates (the last one is really more of an epilogue than a chapter) and then the ‘story’ will be at an end.
