A query of questionable taste
So, here I am, scribbling away on my latest effort, and I've arrived at a point which presents, shall we say, a dilemma.
That is, the dilemma of the sex toy.
I've been writing and reading fanfic for at least eight years, and in the femslash world, the dildo, the vibrator, or various incarcnations of each, have somewhat rarely appeared. Not to say EVER appeared (one tasty fic by Telanu springs to mind quite vividly) but, infrequently. Of course, it could be the particular genres I'm reading, and lots of you will say, "Oh, check out ___ fandom. They're everywhere.". But hell, even Gina Dartt included Wonder Wand warnings in front of each of her stories in the legen--say it with me--dary J/7 Just Between series. Which was always... kind of a drag to me.
I mean, I get it. Sort of. Something wafts back from my Sexuality and Gender class in university rings a bell. But in fanfic, why has the vibrator been so tragically ignored?
Which leads me to my dilemma. For the handful of you possibly reading this, if you have comments, please advise. Shall I be inciting fiery flames of death if I throw in a dildo here or there? Will I cause some sort of riot?
I know you can't please all of the people all of the time, but I am deeply interested why I don't often see sex toys in stories. And what might happen if I go for it.
