Thanks to the joys of the internet, I was able to obtain a book list for my courses this fall. Much love for the school in an internet age! I was born 10 years too early ;)
Anyway...I decided that there was no point in just assuming that Algonquin's bookstore had the best price in books so I started searching.
I had 8 books in total to buy and found myself looking on
online used text sites , and both at
Amazon.ca and
Chapters.ca . I found all but 3 texts that way, all of which I saved a rather quite a bit on each.
My big med/surg nursing text, as well as two which I assumed were published by the school itself were left. I found the Med/surg text at a
university bookstore in Ontario, at a savings of $20, and then just broke down and purchased the last two books from Algonquin.
I got the two from Algonquin in the mail yesterday.
Both were just printed 8 1/2 x 11 sheets, no colour, no clip art, just text with blank pages for note taking thrown in there at the beginning and end of each chapter, AND they are no more than an inch thick each. AND they're not even bound! Nope! Just three hole punched and wrapped in plastic wrap, so now I have to buy a binder or some such thing for them.
The bill for those 2 "books" <-- and I use the term loosely.. $90.00 CND! NINETY BUCKS!! I would LOVE to know who's making a ton on that rip off!
Thankfully when all is said and done, the cost of the two rip off books was saved on my overall text purchases outside of the college (and more...I saved about $150 in total).
