I could be all fangurl 'squeeing' and say how much I enjoyed, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, but that would be silly :)
I went into the movie theatre with some expectations. I wanted the battle scene at the end to amaze me. I wanted the DA scenes to make me smile and I wanted the Occlumency scenes to be powerful.
The battle scene was fantastic. My only beef - Sirius' falling into the veil didn't seem to have the emotional impact that I had expected. It was well done, and the veil itself looked rather good - but there was no tears, and none that I heard in the theatre. Mind you, I didn’t cry in the book either, so perhaps it wasn’t meant to be an emotional heartbreaking scene!
I loved the DA scenes. I loved Aberforth and his goat as they entered the Hogs Head, I loved that Cho was the tattletale as opposed to introducing another minor character. Ginny showing her power, Neville finally being able to duel, and the patronus charms - loved them. Well done without being overdone, IMHO
Luna was fantastic!! The scene at the end where she and Harry were talking, while and her line about her mother always saying that things you lose always come back in the end ( or something like that), I thought screamed foreshadowing for Book 7. We’ll see if it really does in about 1 ½ weeks
The occlumency scene was not entirely what I had expected, but I thought it was well done. The movie seemed to flow (almost to the point of feeling a tad rushed), so to slow anything down for the occlumency wouldn’t have worked from a movie standpoint. I found it a tad odd that Harry was able to read Snape’s mind when Snape’s Legitimancy ability was pounded through our heads in HBP. Although the quick shots of Snape’s memories as opposed to an entire memory scene (like GOF) worked with the pace of the movie.
Umbridge was brilliant and evil and sweet and her ‘office’ with the cat plates! Classic!! Loved it to pieces!
Overall - its my favourite movie to date. I didn’t expect it to be, because it wasn’t my favourite book by far ( GoF was ).
If nothing else I need to re-watch to see what I missed. I eagerly await HBP in movie form and hope that perhaps they can do it justice!!
What did the rest of my flist think?
