Dear Mr Darling,
Re: No replacement for Trident
As I cannot attend the Crunch Time for Trident rally in Glasgow on Saturday 20 June, I am writing to express my opinion.
Trident should be the last nuclear weapon carried on a UK submarine. Its deterrence is an inhumane threat of mass destruction; its replacement will continue an unneccesary arms race and further stress the economy.
The alternative is to invest money in energy efficiency, energy conservation, sustainable agriculture, sustainable transport and renewable energy technologies in order to address climate change. There would be a return on investment, more employment, fewer greenhouse gas emissions, and a more humane society. The technology skills required to maintain the submarine nucler fleet are those that could be employed by the renewable energy sector, and I support
Scottish CND/STUC in their call for a Scottish Arms Conversion Agency to assist the redeployment of the industry.
Yours sincerely
Me
