And this month I mark the end of my 4th year of being a Gymboree teacher. I can\\\'t believe I\\\'ve been singing the same songs, telling the same stories and teaching the same stuff for 4 years. Am I tired of it? Never.
My Top Ten Gymboree Moments (So Far)
1. Seeing Alexi at 12 months old take his first steps on our playfloor at the Rockwell center.
2. Seeing a class of 22 two-year-olds and their moms open-mouthed and enraptured by the thrilling action and suspense of my storytelling of the classic book, \\\"Goodnight Gorilla.\\\"
3. The Muhlach twins trying to get me to abandon class and go with them to eat french fries. Me: \\\"Yaya, paki-sabi sa kambal na teacher cannot leave class to go to McDonald\\\'s.\\\" Yaya: \\\"Ay sorry teacher, hindi kami puede sa McDonald\\\'s, sa Jollibee lang.\\\" Ok, fine, whatever!!!!
4. Packing up my life to go to China to do what I love.
5. Running into Zoe and her parents, who used to attend my classes when she was 6-months old. I was walking in Boracay and I heard a scream \\\"Teacher Eliiiiiiii!\\\" and was engulfed in a hug by mommy who was crying. \\\"Zoe turned two today and we were thinking about you.\\\" Sniff. A tear.
6. Watching children grow from babies to 3 year old toddlers in what seems to be a blink of an eye.
7. Little Jia Jia telling mommy something in Chinese, translated to \\\"I need to be in Eliza\\\'s class, mommy. I don\\\'t think I can live without her. She is my life.\\\" Sniff, another tear.
8. Watching Caille bloom from a shy, clumsy kid into a confident, strong tiny gentleman as a result of my bringing him to work almost everyday. Oh my kids are going to be the luckiest and smartest children in the world. Not to mention the most motor-developed, emotionally-astute, spatially-aware, musically-inclined, steady-beat-skilled and socially-inept children in the world. Haha!
9. Working in an environment where silliness is mandatory, laughter is inevitable, animal voices is in the job description and my improv training with Ana is put to the best use.
10. Being told by a mom, \\\"Your place in heaven has already been secured by the hundreds of tiny souls you\\\'ve touched over the years. You\\\'re their first teacher, and they\\\'ll never forget you. They won\\\'t remember your face, but they\\\'ll remember your spirit. Always.\\\"
It makes all the hard work worth the while.
